I was wondering what Brug varieties root better in water and which ones root better in soiless mix/moss etc?????
Any info will be helpful.
Rooting info
hard wood does well in water. greener cuttings don't for me.
It is just the opposite for me. I put the hardwood in soil and some of the smaller greenwood in water. Can do greenwood in soil too. I still say it is just what works best for you. I have a friend who has trouble rooting hardwood and would rather get the greenwood. Not me.........Have fun!!
the green tips ms brugie? without lenticles? i guess you guys are a lot better than i am, those rot on me if i put them in waer. maybe it's the high humidity here.
I'm really getting bad Arlene. I put some cuttings in water to root and one of them didn't root. Never looked closely at it, but one day Jim knocked the glass over and I had to put everything back in the right way. Took a good look at the one without roots and I had it in the glass upside down. Duh...........I'm getting too old for this I think.
Yes, a couple of those in the glass had no sign of a lenticil and I was so surprised to see a root come out from nowhere.
Arlene, they are about six inch tip growth cuttings.

Oh brugie! I planted cuttings in soil upside down. I didn't know until the cuttings started to leaf out. It probably happens to more than we know!
The picture Kyle posted on this thread is great for showing the different types of cuttings

Thanks Poppysue. Some of the cuttings you sent me made it-- I think. And then there is the stubborn & pitful ones. It looks like it will be bural in the compost heap for those.
Well - don't worry too much about it Desert_rose. I think we've all killed our share of cuttings.... I know I have! There will be more cuttings going around in the spring. I think they root better then anyhow.
brugie, i guess it goes to show there are no standard rules for brugs, depends so much on where you are and conditions. i rotted so many young ones in water that i have gone pretty much strictly to soil, could be the humidity here.
Thanks for trying to make me feel better!
