Sowingbed

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Hi
I made it myself. Now I can sow much more seeds in one time.
I can use 26 seedboxes in it and can adjust the temperature.
Next days I will make two more new beds.
Greetings Ludger

Looks great.

Ludger . . what a great idea. How many seeds will you be able to sow in these 26 boxes?

(Zone 7b)

Looks like you're going to have all kinds of good stuff popping up this winter :) Great idea.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Look at those big fat pods! Looks great Ludger. What are you gonna do with all those brugs?!! I hope you get some neat hybrids from them :)

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

In one box I can sow 70-90 seeds.
I am crazy for new variegated Brugs and I did much Mayapollinations...as more I sow as more it is probable to grow a new variegated Brug.
Also I like to seed out all seeds from one pod, just curious to see to bloom all. May be there is a color or double comeback in percentage terms....I know I´m mad....

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I would do the same thing if I had the room. We could do worse things that grow brug seeds. Can't wait to see if you get a variegate or maybe a beautiful double. Good luck.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Thank you all for good wishes!!!
Brugie, the best would be a good double variegated....
Is future I know but I did some crossings and the new Bruggies I will cross back to doubles and variegated I already have ( thank´s Monika !!!!!!!!)

Ludger, i like your seeds. you are probably smart to grow them all out. i have some pods i will do this with, but probably only 10-20 seeds at a time, if i like them i will start more. i don't understand your boxes. are the seeds in bowls soaking?

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Arlene I use the boxes ( bowls ) because I can move them.
No germinatio: Kompost. Quick germination:More light. And the sowbed will stay clean. Always I can "mix" and change 26 sowboxes in this bed.
And never I will get in trouble because in each box only are seeds from one pod.

Very professional looking!
Well done.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

What a great idea Ludger. Better start tilling up a large garden spot to grow all those seedlings in next year. :)

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Is no one else going to ask what the beer bottle is for???

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

it's for me, be right there Ludger!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Ludger, I'm sorry, I'm confused. You say no soil? can you tell me how you're growing them? are you sprouting them in the bowls and then potting up? I could use any space saving ideas.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

OK Ludger, what is the beer for? I'm curious too, why don't you use soil/compost?

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I know what the beer is for.Brost!!!!!!!!!!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

I know what the beer is for.Broast!!!!!!!!!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Ludger, Those look like great big seeds in that bowl. Mine aren't that size.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

LOL Ludger.......I do not have clue what you were saying:

Arlene I use the boxes ( bowls ) because I can move them.
No germinatio: Kompost. Quick germination:More light. And the sowbed will stay clean. Always I can "mix" and change 26 sowboxes in this bed.
And never I will get in trouble because in each box only are seeds from one pod.

The endless possiblities are exciting Ludger, aren't they?

Doubles, variegation, flower Colour and Culebra type leaves can all be inherited. The only problem being that these characteristics mainly come from the mother plant and so it would probably take a lot of hard work and many years to produce a variegated culebra-leaved double pink or orange Brug. Sorry, I didnt´explain very well.....new start:

I use the boxes filled with soil and seeds. In each box I only sow seeds from one pod.
Now I will have to wait for germination.
Some crossings ( or because the seeds are very fresh )will germinate very fast. This box with germinated seedlings I can move to a place with more light for better growing.

Is there a box without seedlings after some weeks ( dead seeds..) I will move this box to the Kompost.

More pictures will follow soon.

The Beer was for me.....I have drunk after finishing the sowbed.

thanks for explaining, wish i had room for these, I have no idea where I'm going to put seed trays!!

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

You are welcome,smile.
Brugfriends I know, sometimes use the heating ( radiator ) for putting seed trays on.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

tiG...any room on top of the fridge? Or your water heater?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

a bit on the fridge, but I might just move some cuttings up there and keep the seeds lower so I can keep an eye on them.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Ludger, do you maya pods all have known dads??? do you think maya seeds are worth growing if they have unknown dads???? i have lots of unknown dads, trying to decide!!!!

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Arlene
most fathers I know. I want to grow new variegated brugs.
It´s just a try. I pollinated with much different fathers to find out how the seedlings will look. ( variegated or not)
GL

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Should i grow my maya seeds that do not have known fathers?

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

I would do cause I like Maya.
As I know there are not much Mayacrossings in world. It is said that seedlings from variegated Brugs not survive. They do´nt have Clorophyll.
I will try to "find" seedlings which will survive.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

thanks, Ludger. Maya is one of my favorites also.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I can't wait to see your creations to be Ludger! I love the variegated brugs also! i wish you every success!

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Guess I will need all your good wishes for finding a new variegated Brug, thanks, smile.

One reason because I try to grow so much Brugs. As more I have as earlier I will find a variegated sport, perhaps.....

So it's true - Beer is the secret ingredient - a little known fact- but obviously proven on both continents. LOL
