pot roast question

Perrysburg, OH(Zone 5a)

I usually make pot roast in the crock pot with onion soup mix, garlic, and beef broth. I find that it's very dry but tender.
My grandma always sears hers first, but does this really make a difference in the moister??? I love way the mine tastes but cannot stand how dry it turns out!!!
Help!!! Any advise???
