OMG I think i have fallen in love....is this an easy plant to find in nurserys? (i usually dont go for plants that need a lot of water since my climate is DRY but i'm willing to make an exception).
I have some cuttings I'm trying to root...if you haven't found one and they make it I'll send you some. Check places like Home Depot and Lowe's. It's a pretty popular plant right now. Mine is not doing well, hence the cuttings. I don't think it gets enough water or shade where it is and I keep forgetting to move it. But you're right, it's a beauty!
That's lovely Flo - and never heard of it before. I love the common name, very apt :)
I grew these this year, but in full sun. I didn't get a lot of bloom and was disappointed in how they grew. Will have to think about putting them in more shade next year and see if that will help. Mine got about 3 ft. tall. Is that normal?
Brugie, I got this plant after seeing them at the Botanical Gardens. All info says full sun but at the BG they're grown in bright shade next to Dancing Girl Gingers and they are still in full bloom! (2 weeks ago anyway).
I think mine and the BG's are about 2 feet tall, maybe a bit more.
Thanks Stacey, Maybe this just isn't a good candidate for this area, I don't know.
I dont know why this plant seems so amusing to me....i think i should start a collection of plants that make me laugh lol :)
I had one, it tried extrememly hard to grow, bloomed once and then disappeared. Tempermental?
Weeds, You are describing exactly what happened with mine except I still have mine, albeit a sickly specimen. I wonder why they are like that? Temperamental?? At best!
I think the first part of the name gives a hint "Cat's whiskers". I also can't grow hostas and there is no cat in that name.
