Hi Susanh - Welcome to DG! I've never tried growing poppies indoors so I can't be much help. It might be possible but I don't think they'd do very well.

I was wondering if you can tell me what kind of poppy I have growing in my yard. I will try and get a picture, but to describe it, It stands about 4'high and i guess you would call it lettuce leaves, and the flowers are about 4" and pink. If anyone can help I would appreciate it . Thanks Delores

Delores, I would say yes... that's a papaver somniferum.

Is this the same plant that is often planted in a strawberry jar? The picture doesn't look like what I have. I was just wondering.

Thanks.

I don't think these would be a good canidate foe a strawberry jar. They get quite tall... 3 feet or so.

I've read that somniferum can be grown indoors if requirments for light are met., in 1 to 5 gal containers.
