I saw those yellow ones on line, but do you worry about the invasiveness? I got worried, and pulled mine out.
These won't be a problem here - because they aren't hardy. The plants won't live live through our cold winter. Your zone is another story! I've heard they can be a problem in the warmer zones - so you probably did the right thing.
How do the roots look? I would be able to do them if those roots were more compact and not carrot like. The problem is the carrot like extensions break off in the soil, when I try to remove them for winter storage. I posted a photo of the roots under Four o clock. Someone should create a hybrid with compact roots.
The roots are carrot-like too. I think re-seeding is also a problem with 4 o'clocks.
Well it is good for drough conditions I have heard, but I don't have that problem here. But, else where in the state, they are always under water restriction even with the El Nino coming again this year.
Poppysue, I love the colour of that mirabilis. Is it actually the pale yellow shading to white as shown in the pic? I am definitely going to have to look for that one this year. Very nice shot.
Actually broot they were quite a bright yellow. I think the photo looks lighter because it was cloudy that day.
OK, bright yellow I could live with. It was the shading to white in the centre that really attracted me. Is that still present?
To be honest - I don't remember them to have that. They might have started out pale like that and darkened up as they really got going. If you asked me ... they looked exactly like e regular yellow 4 o'clock.
I dunno why I always have to seek out the weird and unusual species of plants. I usually end up disappointed.
Darn. Oh what the heck, I will give them a try anyway. I always like to try some different plants every year too. Don't like always planting the same old things.
