seeds were white

(Zone 7b)

I opened a seed pod that was very fat but maybe not completely ripe and all the seeds and corky coating were white. Is this because it wasn't ripe or are they white until the air hits them? They are turning brown now.

Gnomey, the seeds are still a bit green, go ahead and plant them now. Some might come up, I had some last year that did. Let the pod stay on the plant till the pedicel(penduncle) turns yellow. I think there is a picture somewhere around here, I'll have to look to find it though.

Thanks Cala, what happened was that we had a frost warning and I was planning to dig the mother plant but just did not have the time or space to get her inside. Therefore I took cuttings and put the ones with the seed pods in water. Some are still very firm and green and don't look like they've stressed a bit, and are rooting. Some have fallen off, most of the small ones did drop. This pod was large but for some reason, unlike the other large ones was looking wilted and wrinkly so I decided to cut it off and open it up. The seeds were about the size of mature seeds and looked like mature seeds except they were solid white. They did start to turn brown a bit shortly after I pulled them all apart. I took your advice and planted them all in one large planter. We'll see if anything comes up. How long should I wait before deciding to use the planter for something else?

Thanks again for your advice. Please keep your fingers crossed for my little seeds!
