Does anyone know how often they flower? Mine is 12 years old, started as a houseplant in Tennessee, and now lives outside in New Orleans. It flowered once, about three years ago in TN and now has two (I'm SO excited) buds. I know some arums only flower once every three years. Is the selloum on the same schedule?

Mine is flowering constandly now to the point, I am worried about it. It may be draining the engery from the plant. I wish I could discourage it. These are the bubs. It makes them and then repeats the cycle year around in my zone.

Wow! And I was excited about my two little buds! I'm sure that it won't do any harm to your plant to have so many flowers. A lot of plants have a profusion of blooms in the spring and then settle into their normal growth routine for summer. I would be thrilled if mine bloomed more frequently. Where are you located? Are you feeding it? Whatever you're doing...you're doing a good job!

I am in San Francisco, if you look to the right of my post, it says San Francisco, or you can click on my member page. I use 10-10-10 balanced. The secret to more flowers is adding some compost as top dressing, monthly feeding, and water every other day or so, depending on the weather. They do really great in places like Florida, however, probably better then mine.

I live in Kansas City and have had this plant since 1973. This is the frist time I can remember it doing this.

Does anyone know if the RIPE fruit it edible on Philodendron selloa? I know leaves, stems, roots, flowers and UNRIPE fruit are TOXIC (oxalate crystals, or something).

I also know there is a similar plant called the "Mexican Breadfruit" or "Fruit Salad Plant" (Monstera Deliciosa), which is also toxic, except for its RIPE fruit, which has a custard-like texture and is supposed to taste like a mix of mango, pineapple and banana.
