Hi, Everyone. I just found this site last night and am sleep deprived today from reading all your posts. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all.
My questions is this: This is my second year growing brugs and have recently received several cuttings from a generous brug friend. Some of the cuttings have gotten a little limp since I put them in water. I would really hate to loose these cuttings. Is there a better way to root that would stop this? I've had cuttings go limp and then recover but sometimes they don't. I haven't had much luck putting cuttings directly in soil. Any suggestions?
Intro and a question
some of them just don't like being in the water, while others thrive. Take those out, put in barely damp soilless mix and keep in low light for a few days. don't overwater!!!! good luck, keep us uptodate, and welcome to Daves!!!
Wow, today is the day for Newbies!! Welcome.
I root mine in medium vermiculite. Just wet the vermiculite before you use it and the dust shouldn't be a problem. I use cut off coke bottles that have been washed. I put a hole in the bottom for drainage, fill with vermiculite, wet, dip the cutting in Shultz root starter and stick in the vermiculite. Keep warm and out of hot sun, should root in 2-4 weeks.
Welcome to Daves. I root my woody cuttings in damp soilless mix and some of the greener ones also. If they are really small, I put them in a glass of water on the kitchen table so I remember to change the water each day. If the water starts to get cloudy, even tho it is changed daily, check the bottom of the cuttings for rot. Re-cut and try, try, again. Good luck. Some just don't make it, no matter what you do, but most will.
Hi Michelle,
welcome !!!!
When the cuttings in water have gotten small white points you should pot in pretty dry soil and hy humid. The white points are preroots, a sign that the plant will root soon.
If the end of a cutting is muddy, cut it back and touch the cutting in woodcoal ( charcoal ??? )it will desinfect.
You must have charcoalpowder.
Sorry for my english, I´m a german.........lol.
Greetings Ludger
Tomorrow I will try to make some pictures.
Welcome Michelle. You will find lots of help here. I sure have learned a lot about rooting cuttings from folks here. Still learning.
Welcome Michelle.
Ludger, tonight my husband and I were sitting at the kitchen table after eating our meal and I looked at a couple of the glasses of cuttings I have on the table and was in shock. I had no pre-roots on any of them and thought they might be the ones that had to be tossed, but tonight two of the cuttings, without pre-roots, have roots. I didn't have a white dimple on any of those cuttings and was so surprised to see the roots. Now my Pink Favorite---Not, is going to grow for sure. Thanks Deb.

hey michelle, why should you get sleep when none of the rest of us do??? lol
we all recommend a very comfortable chair for serious DGers!
LOL tiG, what you need to do is have your computer next to your bed like I do, LOL. That way, I roll over, et coffee and go to DG's. LOL Seriously, I feed the animals, do my morning thingy then bring my coffee back to bed so I can drink it while I check in at Dave's.
Annie
Annie, my computer is right outside the bedroom door. I hit connect on the way to the coffee pot! Getting something new this week that will have me back on the cable modem, then I'll have to move the coffee in here:)
tiG, I asked Mike to put a coffee pot in here also but he just frowned at me and told me I drank to much coffee anyway, LOL!
Morning by the by!
Annie
