What is the largest, length wise, brug cutting that you have rooted???? 1ft, 3ft, 6ft, more??????
Brug Cuttings
I have an over 3' cutting inside now rooted. Didn't mean to, I had to cut it before it fell over (whiskers, very tall) and just stuck it until I am ready to send out cuttings.
I have rooted 2-3 ft. cutting successfully and have air layered some longer than that. My cuttings were rooted in a bucket of water.
Rooted 3 footers in vermiculite, air layered 6 ft cuttings.
Mine are rooting in the cups of water...
I've got a 5 ft Dr Seuss cutting in a bucket of damp moss on my porch. I checked it this morning and it has a root starting. I took all of the leaves off of it, then cut it from the mother plant, started it in a bucket of water for a couple of days and now it's in the moss. I took such a big cutting because I wanted to start it off as a standard next year and I left the Y and 6 nodes above the Y so it will flower quicker next year.
Thanks everyone for your input. Think I will try rooting large cuttings in spanish moss, similar to air layering.
hummer-nut, The largest I have rooted is about 3 feet and I did it with rooting hormone and rooting mixture (soil). It rooted beautifully in less than two weeks.
Annie
I rooted a 7-9 foot trunk piece that broke off in a storm. Just stuck it in a big container of water. It rooted great!
gingerlily or others rooting in water, how long did it take to root and did you change the water during the process?
Larry,
Just returned from the greenhouse and that 6-7 ft cutting in the bucket of water does have roots on it. I change the water about every three days....it has been in the water for three weeks now. I plan on potting it up next week....time permitting.
Gloria, you have mail. I never have liked to root in just water as I feel it creates a weak root structure, but for some that is the only way they root things. To each his on if it works.
Thanks to everyone for your input.
