Don't freeze yet! Bloom pods forming.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Please don't freeze yet! I have bloom pods just forming on three brugs that have not bloomed so far this year. One is in a pot, two are in the ground. I just hope they make it to bloom before the first frost. I've not paid close enough attention to how long it takes for the pod to develop and bloom. I know somebody out there knows. So how long do I have to keep praying for warm weather (it's cooler today!) 2,3,4 weeks?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Better shoot for the four weeks. Hope they make it for you.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Hope they make it, get the blankets out just in case.

Panhandle, FL(Zone 8a)

Oh gingerlily, I hope they make it. Maybe we will not have frost for another 6 weeks.

Ace, TX(Zone 8a)

Gingerlily I know how you feel. I went through this last year. Mind for some reason always get pods in OCTOBER what's wrong with them. Don't they know they can't do that. They just don't listen. I pulled every blanket and sheet out of the linen closet but they still got frost bit.
AND THEIR DOING IT AGAIN this year.
I have decided I am not gonna let it bother me, but next year I am gonna keep a few in pots and try a little polination earlier in the season.
I wish you the best of luck and I will be praying that you can manage where I couldn't.

GingerLily,
Our normal first frost here is about 21 November....hope yours if further away.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

My Jessie Noel (pot)still hold the big pod.. I am watching it very close.. Today I am going to move it under temporary greenhouse I made today..

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

The two in the ground are probably 4 ft but bushy. I might try building a temporary frame and cover with plastic if we frost in the next few weeks. It always gets warmer again. Maybe I'll add some hay all over the temp greenhouse to insulate it for the night. If I can't get the hay, I'll just throw blankets like ya'll said. I never throw out old blankets. Usually use them for the dog pen but my dog got killed last week. Thank goodness there's only two in the ground wanting to bloom. I'll bring the potted one in and put in by a south window.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Gingerlily, the bad news is that we almost had a frost last night.I wiped the water off my truck windshield this morning and it turned to ice as I was wiping it.That is too close for comfort.I am definately not ready yet. Most of mine are still in the ground. If we make it through tonight
maybe we will get a couple of more frost free weeks.
I did dig my Pink Beauty and bring it into the greenhouse. It has 14 pods so I dug a ton of dirt and put it in a ten gallon pot.Now to see if I can get an appointment with my chiropractor.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

hey JT, did you stress as bad as I did moving those brugs with the big pods on them?? I thought I might pass out any minute! lol

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Tig,I am hoping to get everything under control this weekend.Just praying we have no hard frost before then.
I still have to complete buttoning up the greenhouse, digging and moving about twenty inground plants and reducing about 30 more to cuttings and getting those cuttings into the rooting medium.Stressed??? You bet. This isn't going to happen next year.Yeah,right.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

It looked frosty early this morning, but I guess it was just dew thank goodness. DH said it was dipping into the 30's next week, but I don't know how low. I'm not ready either, JT. Why don't you leave yours in the ground and just mulch them?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

JT, my DH says there's no way this is happening next year. I'm not telling him...

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Gingerlily,I am leaving many of them in the ground but even on those,I need to take cuttings and get them started for next year. Some I am digging because I only have one and don't want to take the chance of losing it.Some I just want to see bloom early next spring.
