Or, in other words, how many of us got their Brug start from Calalily?
I truly believe Cala was the influence at work here...I know she was kind enough to share some cuttings of various brugs with me this spring, enabling me into a new obsession..
Thanks, Cala!
John
Pre Cala, how many had Brugs?
got most of my firsts from Eric, he sent a huge box that I split with another member. But Cala has certainly added so many I can't even count them. And not only brugs, she's made my addiction to all tropicals so much worse:)
Bought my first ones, since then have bought quite a few, but traded for lots also. Brugie was my teacher and really got me interested, with her pics, as she won last years brug contest with her V. orange, which was a beauty.
I got started because of a friend from Milwaukee. Then bought several from Valley Grow and traded for some too. Been doing brugs for only 4 years, and met Calla through Daves last year. Like tiG, Calla has broadened my interest in tropicals and she has added to my collection as well.
Thanks Hibiscus.
Brugie gave me my very first! Then Cala added several to that when I visited her in July. Then Brugie just gave me several more. Between those two, I have a collection to be proud of!! I also got one from Azalea. How I love those girls!
I'm sorry if i've forgotten anyone but I think Tig and Calla are great!
You always make people feel welcome, you always reply, you always try and share, you always try to help, you always try to encourage others! You do all these things not because you expect anything in return, it's because you are naturaly nice people! Both of you are great role models for the group!
Bruno in Ireland
Bruno, everyone here has helped me grow to try and be a more generous person. I just want to be like them when I grow up :)
But I sure am glad you feel welcome here, I think we do all try to avoid cliques here. We're all just one big happy family!!!
Glory was my Santa. She shared cuttings with me last year, and this year a lot more Santas have shared with me. I'll be watching all the postings next year, looking for some doubles and any others that I don't have. Thank you to everyone. A very friendly, generous group of gardeners I have met here. God Bless!
Janette
I think an interesting question also would be POST-Cala how many brugs became yours!!! Cala has truly a giving heart and the energy that it takes to be so giving! I wonder how many trips she makes to the PO each day!!!
There are so many great gardeners here on Dave's who are not only free with sharing their plants but also all their knowledge. I am amazed at how nice people are here, esp on the Brug forum where I hang out mostly. You welcome everyone in and them addict them shamelessly! Suddenly their gardens go from beautifully manicured gardens with a little bit of everything to yards that look like a brug nursery with black growing pots filling every nook and cranny and used-to-be cherished nonbrug plants being tossed to make room for more and more brugs!!!!
What I want to know, has anyone ever recovered from this?
LOL, I need therapy ASAP!!!
I bought my very first Brug in Key West in Jan 1996 and I still have it...you'll never guess what it was" Frosty Pink".
A really great brug Glory, don't you think?
Kell,
No matter how may I have or will have Frosty will always have a special place in my heart.....it blooms for me no matter how ugly I am to it.
Goodness, I go to an all day board meeting and am so tired I almost missed this!! Y'all are so sweet. I got my first brugs from a very dear friend. My very first brug was Dr. Seuss. I tried to trade for more varieties, no one would trade with me cause they already had the ones I did. Then one day Brugie emailed me, she wanted a plant I had, she sent me one of every brug she had!!! She is a dear dear person. Then MsJen sent me what was supposed to be a couple for postage, when I opened the box, it was full of all kinds. I decided right then and there that I'd share whatever I had. Sometimes I forget, sometimes I'm slow, but I'll get them to ya sooner or later!!! BTW, Hibiscus is it too cold to send now?
AND, there was a package waiting for me when I got home. It was from Tracey. I'll give y'all three guesses as to what's in it, and the first two don'g count!!!!! Bill came in the kitchen, he thought something was wrong cause I was hollering so loud!!
God, I am so glad Tracy gave you that for now it means you will share it with all of us!!!
Calalily, I often joke that you are the blame for my addiction to Burgs, put it really is no joke and isn't meant bad in any way! Cala, I can't begin to thank you for addicting me to these lovely's! Yeppers, Cala is the reason I am now compeletly addictted and I love her for it. P.S. I HAVE MY FIRST FLOWERS!!! LOL Going to post pictures now.
Annie
Cala gave me my very first brug, too!! Then Glory, Brug Nanny, and Irish sent me many more!! I have to agree with everyone, DGer's are very sharing peoples!!
"eyes"
I got my first brugs from Cala also. She was so generous last spring to me. Thank you Cala for the nice starts. Lani
Cala is the wonderful person responsible for all the brugs and seedlings I have in the house....and for the upcoming cala-series next spring. I guess my babies are 100% pure-unadulterated Cala brugs. She gets around way more than any moth or butterfly! This forum and all of the great information is the reason they are still alive...hehehe :)
((please ma'am or sir, could anyone help me with my adiction? I need a fix bad....))
Ok, so what was in Cala's box from Tracy??!
Rik, if you are still coming this weekend, you'll be set. but we have had a bad frost, and everything inside and out looks like a tornado hit it.
tiG! I'll be there, God willin' and the creek don't rise. So sorry to hear about the frost!! (tearing up)
never fear, the brugs are still good, they would have lost their leaves anyway.
