Hi everyone, An Insignis 'Jamaican Yellow' which i grew from a cutting of the original 'Shredded JY', I think it was Glory who sent it to me last spring but thanks who ever it was, anyway...it has just produced a four peaked bloom!
Because JY's flowers are usualy rigid and angular anyway, haveing only four peaks accentuates this...infact, the corolla tube is completely square! The calyx it's self is only four sided too! It hasn't fully opened yet and so i can't wait to have a look inside! My guess is that, when i do look inside the tube, it will lack one anther!
I'll post another pic as soon as it opens!

Take a "Peak" !
Where's the first pic?
It does look square! Does the second bloom have 4 too?
My Dr. Seuss produced a few blooms like this on its first round of blooms. They looked really square, I don't remember what the inside looked like.
No...just this one! I'm going to polinate it to see if this effects the seed pod and seedlings!
I finally have a Culebra bloom so i'll probably be useing this to pollinate the JY!
lucky!!! keeping my fingers crosses on that one!
Here it is a couple of days later, still not fully open! I think it's haveing a problem recurving! If it does manage to recurve it'll probably cause a few tears in the corolla mouth! Like i guessed, this flower only has four anthers! I haven't quite figured out what it is yet, but there's something else odd about the four anthers and stigma! I'll keep you updated though!
BTW...Will the cold we have at the moment affect the viability of the pollen and the receptiveness of the stigma?
Looks great Bruno! I know I spent a lot of time pollinating all my late blooms - and it seems that most have NOT taken. The plants are going dormant and just don't want to make pods now.
