opening CDs

It's me needing help again *LOL*
I was sent a CD that someone in a chat room I go to. It is a collection of recipes a friend made. I can't open it. I went to my CD drive in MY COMPUTER & clicked on one file. It gave me a bunch symbles & asked where I wanted to open it. Well I didn't see the type of file it was & clicked on Paint Shop Pro5 .. That was a BIG mistake & should have known better. It is a WPS (what ever that means) It won't open there. I no longer have the choices & wouldn't know what to do if it did. Can anyone help me get this CD to open?
