immature seeds

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

when moving Pink Beauty in, a lovely nice big seedpod got knocked off. it was only 6 or 7 weeks old. Of course, I planted the white seeds inside. what are the chances there was an embryo in them?

Is plant abortion legal tiG? LOL

Tragedy 2001 came from immature seeds. Just took a chance and planted a few of them and only one came up. They were still white and probably about 3/4 matured. Can't hurt to try.

good luck with them tiG, hopefully they will sprout and you'll get something special from them!

Best of luck with them tiG. You never know . . a star could be born.

well, I think they were probably way too early, but you never know, one might have the will!!

OK TiGGums, next time, let them stay in the pod as long as possible. I've done that with FP and Suaveolens(didn't have any other varieties at the time) and some of them matured. I just stick the stem end pod in the potting soil and leave it there till it starts to turn brown.

oh man! I should have called you! oh well. and it was a really good cross too.

It's always worth a try . . you just never know.

With your luck tiG, triple pinks will come up!!!

Just bringing this back up as I think it could help a few people with the advent of the seeds we lose come winter time. Ie, we all tend to knock a few pods off as we drag our brugs past the couches and through our doorways.
Hope this helps someone.

tiG, last December, a small pod fell off Anouschka pollinated with Apricot Queen. It fell inside a bed with heating mats. I searched for it but was unable to find it. This September, when I took all the sand out of the beds to wash and desinfect it, there was that little pod, completely dried out. I picked the seeds with their corky shells out and soaked them for 72 hrs in mild warm water. Then I wrapped them in moist papertowels, stuck it in a plastic bag to see, if any would germinate. At the moment, I have 5 strong seedlings out of a actually immature pod.

This is good news Monika. I have a pod in the garage that looks like it isn't going to go ahead and mature, maybe due to the cold. It isn't a special cross, but maybe I'll see what I can do with it anyway.

Did tigs germinate?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

no, but I've had several pods that are dropping, didn't like it inside. So I'm putting them in the pot with mom too.
