The plastic is up, and the plants are moved in. (as many as will fit anyway) Now we just have to finish the trim and get the vents set. Sure would go faster if it wouldn't rain everyday! We have had one day of sunshine out of 17!!!!!!!!! I am so tired of the gloomy rainy days.

Almost done
WWWWOOOOOWWWW!!!!!!!
toadlily It won't be long and U will be working rain or shine in that nice G/H It looks great I am envious.
Thanks Greenwood
I am lookng forward to those days. I just want it complete RIGHT NOW!
It is supposed to stop raining here by the middle of next week so I am hoping we can get it finished then. I am tired of working in the rain and have decided to just live with it until it gets a little dried out.

What a great setup you have! How large is your pond? (Is that a temporary setup, or did you build your GH over an existing pond?
Looks like a wonderful place to spend some time this winter, rain or shine :) (I LOVE puttering around in my GH when the rain is coming down outside - all the soothing benefits of the noise, without being cold or wet!)
Hey Leisa..........can my plants come live with you until spring??? You did one heck of a job there, my friend!! I know what ya mean about the rain..........think I could scream!!!!!
"eyes"
Thanks go_vols, even if it is not as big as we had planned in the beginning, we are really proud of it.
We built the above the ground pond this summer to house my ever growing collection of tropical lilies. (going to start selling them in the spring)When we started planning the new, larger greenhouse, we decided to build the frame over the pond. Much easier than trying to put a bunch of odd shaped troughs in the GH like we did last year. The water helps to hold the heat in too! The pond is 16'x8' and the greenhouse is 10'x40'. There is just enough room to walk on one side of the pond and about 4 ft. on the back side of the pond to hold tropical bog plants in 3 kiddie pools.
I am hoping after the sun comes out and we get the vents put it, that it won't be so wet in there. The condensation rains on us each time we go in there! LOL But it is a wonderful place to sit and relax.
We are also planning on putting in benches along at least one of the long walls to house more plants. If we did that, I think I could maybe get by with just the one GH instead of having to heat my little on also. (you can see it in the background. It is 12'x12'.)
TL
Oh-space, wonderful space!! That is so wonderful, how cold does it get there?? Are you going to double layer it?
I was trying to decide if I need to do that or not. The coldest it gets is in the high teens for a few hours a night (some winters)and not for very many nights at that. (We are just south of Dallas Texas )We don't have to heat in the day at all, most of the time the vents are open to decrease the heat that is trapped in there by the sun during the day, but at night, the temp will even out to what is outside the GH if the heaters are not run. I am looking into bubblewrap and trying to decide if it would be worth it to try that. Have been reading the post about it and got some for the small GH to test it out.
Any view on the bubble wrap and how well it works? Will it be worth my time?
TL
I really like bubble wrap, but it can get expensive, I really do think you should have a double layer of regular UV plastic tho - the dead air space is what holds the heat. On my regular gh, we only put it on the glass window and door - just taped it over the glass for the coldest times. If you just lay another layer of plastic flat over the other one, it won't help much unless you can separate them to create the air space. You could just put sections of bubble wrap, like a foot or 2 square in spots between the layers to separate them. You can attatch it with either tape or spray adhesive. On my "real" gh, we had a wood frame with corrugated panels, then stapled the inerlayer of plastic to the wood, creating a space. Hope this helps.
Hey Toadlily,Lookin good girl! Weve been doing ours also and this constant rain and gloom has got to go. Where did you get your poly from? We do plan on double with fan because all power on our place is electric and it would cost too much in$ to heat for a long period of time if we have one of those winters again.I work in Ft Worth 38 miles away and it was dry there and I called in with 3 inches of snow&ice here. Go figure, I took pictures so they would believe me. Count me in for some of those Lilys come spring,I have a pond planned also (Poor DH back is gonna love it. Our GH is 12x38 and wanted to put my hot tub in it. Do you think that would work? It is an old hot tub and if it quits working I could always grow water plants Huh.
I don't know about the hot tub? We thought about that but I was worried about the plants in there with all that humidity that comes from the hot tub having clorine in it. Maybe someone here can answer that for you. We got the 6 mil poly from HD. So what kind of fan do you use for in between the poly? I gets just as cold here and I think I am going to try doubling this year. Seems that Ft. Worth never sees what we do in the outlying areas like WF and GV:-). Last year we had a small one 12'x12' and we didn't double. We put a kerosene heater in there at night and it worked pretty good, but this one is so much bigger!
TL
Hi Toadlily. the fan is a small box with a hose spliced to give a small space between layers of poly. From what alot of the greenhouse people in FtW tell me ,it works great in the winter. However I keep getting the same question as on how I plan on cooling this in the summer. They keep leading me toward the 1yr film for the $ factor. O just dont know how I am going to like having to dispose of that plastic every spring. Thats why I would rather spend the $ on 4yr. Back To your question, the fan you need to inflate your walls is Not a high dollar thing. HD could help on details.
New around here and just showed DH pics that is a beautiful greenhouse! He thought so well of his till I showed him the pics hahah!!! I am hoping to get new dig camera batteries soon to put pics of mine up. We finished it about 3 weeks ago now I believe it is 12x24. What did you use for your frame??? Did you keep up with costs?? I did a wood base frame on mine and then we drilled holes in the 2x4's at the top and inserted pvc and hooped the top...
