Hubby and I did our usual Saturday morning eat breakfast out routine and then off to the National Small Farm Show and Conference. It always inspires me to see what people are doing. One interesting thing was a hand push hay baler. Sort of looks like a very large garden tiller. Hard to discribe, but would come in handy in small places. The bales didn't look too tightly packed. anyhoo. interesting. I talked to a guy that makes chicken tractors. Someone who made greenhouses, coldframes, poultry houses, etc... Some of the exhibitors were actually leaving today, and had been there since Wednesday or Thursday. I bought lettuce seed, tuberrose bulbs and got a small sample of some celosia seed for buying the bulbs. The lady that raises tuberroses sells them at farmer's market. She had pictures of several acres of her cut flower gardens to look at. Found out she doesn't live too far from me either.
Hubby said if he didn't cut wood today we were going to freeze to death.. I believe that , it started sleeting little pellets of ice while we were working outside. I planted my neglected garlic bulbs and got my lettuce bed ready for Spring. I came inside to make Hubby some hot chocolate when my oldest daughter called wanted to know if we wanted to come over for supper. you bet. She had had company for lunch with lots of leftovers. I will sure taste good after working outside in the cold for several hours.
I picked basil seed, but don't know if it will be viable seed , it was going to seed when it froze. Guess I will see in the Spring. After handling garlic and basil I think I should take a shower before I visit my daughter she may run me out of the house.
