variegated blooms

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i stopped by a nursery today, the fellow's who told me he had a variegated brug bloom. he gave me cuttings of 2. both had green/yellow variegation. both getting ready to bloom. one looked like it will be p&c or maya. the other one had the roundest bud on it i have every seen on a brug!!!! this was the better cutting of the two. any ideas on what it is? do any of your variegates start with rounded buds? will try to stop over next week to catch them in bloom. hopeing the cuttings take. the best cutting was from the one with the round, variegated bud.

Sounds interesting Arlene. Hope you get something totally different from the cuttings.

Dee was with me when i met this guy, he is a trip! plants to die for. have you seen variegated gardenias? or the tea oil trees with huge blooms? and the blue camellia which i'm not sure i believe......lol. if i had known i was going there today would have taken the camera!

i fear though what he called variegated blooms where like when the pinks and yellows swirl. he gave me some good tips also. (i couldn't get a word in, can you believe it?)

Do take that camera next trip.I don't believe the blue camelia either.

JT, i saw the variegated gardenia but it wasn't in bloom, gorgeous. and the tea oil, just stems left where flowers were.

Arlene,
I have a V.Gardenia but it's not growing that great where I have it planted.....got it at Lowes.

Can't wait to see what it is.

I've got a mini variegated gardenia, only a few leaves still variegated, but also have a regular size one and it's more white on the leaves than green.

I don't know if I was dreaming or not, but someplace I got the information that in order to keep the variegation, you need to cut the green leaves off. Now, I don't remember if that was the leaves or those stems with green leaves. My variegated lantana ended up nearly all green because I didn't whack on it. Was I dreaming?

I know this is true with Japanese maples Brugie. If the green leafed branches start they are much more aggressive than the varigated ones and will soon take over unless you cut them out. I have an old Butterfly Japanese maple and some years it gets a lot of green branches. I snap them off before they get big.

Oh good. I wasn't dreaming then.
