wintering clerodendrums
Tiggums, they will lose leaves and go dormant just like mandevillas. That's the easiest way. You can also keep them warm and bright and they will keep growing.(but if it's gotten below 40*(For for Kell, that's 4.4*C))they will lose their leaves anyway. I keep my clerodendron ugandense in the garage, it can even take a light frost, die to the ground and come back.
the ugandense is huge, will try to find a place where I can remember to water:)
They start easily in soil too. I've also started some in water, but both methods work best if they have some bottom heat. Beautiful plant. Have you ever collected seed and successfully grown it?
I appreciate you ladies so much. I am learning so
much from you both.
uh oh, my buchanii isn't looking good at all!! I wish I'd taken cuttings instead, I think I lost the whole thing.
Okay, I'll bite!! What is a Buchanii?
it's got pink flowers with red centers. like a bleeding heart vine but with pink instead of white. it was gorgeous!!
Clerodendrun ugandenese can be kept in the ground during the wintertime. In early spring, cut the plant back to about 6" above the ground. That will encourage new stems to form, bushier shrub, and the flowers bloom on NEW wood. Very easy plant and very rewarding too :~)
tiggums, Liz and I have been looking for seeds from this plant...is it possible to trade some seeds with you???..we cannot obtain this plant in Canada...Elaine
I didn't get seeds from it, so sorry.
Ugandense, I think it is spelled..Jeanne
