Number of corolla peaks (tendrils) questions etc.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Hi everyone...it's been very quiet in here lately, hasn't it? I've got a few questions:

I heard it mentioned here before that some hybrids produce blooms with an unusual number of corolla peaks (4, 6 etc). Which hybrids do this (consistantly)?

Which species and hybrids does this most commonly occur?

This trait can't be passed on, right?

Was it my imagination or do i remember someone metioning a self-fertile hybrid? If so, which one is it?

I've got lots more questions (esp. re. doubles) i'll ask another time!

Bruno, I had a versi salmon/peach from Valleygrow that had 7 tendrils on the corolla of one flower, the rest opened with 5. I think it just happens sometimes, no reason why.

I've had some that had 6 on several blooms, but not all.

I think the self fertile is aborea....don't quote me though......

CC, you're right. Arborea is supposed to be self fertile.

I had one brug that had seven tendrils on one flower, six on another, and all the rest had five. I've seen six several times since then on other brugs. Wish it could be bred into a brug that it would have six or seven tendrils all the time. Here is the addy to the picture of the one with seven tendrils: http://davesgarden.com/brugcontest/viewentry.php?imageid=42

Right. That picture was awesome. I don't remember what thread it was on though.

Many of my Brugs have commonly 5-6 temdrils. This white suaveolens has usually 5, but a single flower produced 10 tendrils. I have picked the flower and dried it for herbarium use.

Ludger, your pink brug is very pretty. I like the ruffles. Tonny, thanks for posting the link. This is one really unusual picture. I'd sure have kept the flower too.

Thanks folks! I was nearly sure there were brugs that produced six tendrils all the time...must have dreamt it..LOL

About the self-fertile hybrid, i know Arborea is self-fertile and kyle mentioned about pure Suaveolens being self-fertile in it's native habitat but did someone not say that there is a self fertile hybrid? Must have been another dream. LOL
