do tropicals rest?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm trying to figure the lighting for my greenroom and need to know, do all tropicals rest? EEs, and the like? I can't believe all the tropicals I am bringing in, and any help you can throw my way is appreciated.
Cala, can you come pack my room???? ack, I have too many!!!

TiGGums, lots of the gingers go dormant, I let my EEs go dormant or semi dormant. Allamandas, mandevillas and things like that will go semi-dormant. They will lose all their leaves, don't let get bone dry, or keep too wet.

Where do you find out which gingers go dormant?

A ginger book??? I look them up(or ask Lisa). I can try to make a list and post it here. Give me a little while, I've got to cart all those tropicals into the garage by tonight.

in the orient, where it is hot and humid, tropical plants i have not known to go dormant. but in the US, due to cold weather, they will go into dormancy stage.

i, personally uproot all the bulbs, corms, rhizomes. cut off all the leaves [will take moisture off the bulb, corm, and rhizomes, the very reason why they need to be cut off], and allow them to dry. i do not wash them, once dried, i brushed off all the dirt. keep them in plastic bags or brown bags. once in a while, i do check and not allow the bulbs, corms and rhizomes to dry. mist if need be, to prevent roots from drying.

personally i prefer the plastic bag in the zone where i live, keeps the moisture in. but if u live in cooler climates, i would suggest a brown bag or newspaper.
