Peat pots

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

These little peat pots worked out well for cuttings. They don't work good for too much else - glad I found a use for them!

Cool. Now, are you going to pot them up bigger or let them grow a while in the peat pots? I should have tried something like this. Would have taken less room.

I potted them into larger pots tonite. It's one of the cuttings you sent :) All but a few had roots growing through the pots.

Now I have to hope they survive the winter for you. I'm sure they will with roots coming through like those.

SO you'll just plunk the peat pot into a bigger pot? Finally
I have a use for the dozens I bought a few years ago.

Yes in deed....Burgie...your Oasis is wonderful...and you can cut it smaller....then peat pots...if you do it when you push the canes in it...peat pots work but Oasis too...heheheh...works for many things...Diana

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

oh shucks, I am peatpotless! What is Oasis? thanks

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Kell, it's the foam stuff you stick fresh flowers or dried flowers in for arrangements.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

thanks Liz. I would never have thought to use that stuff to start a cutting.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

good idea sue, i think I have some somewhere too, but dont recall seeing them this year, may have thrown them out...

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Kell, you just have to make sure you get the oases for wet arrangements. There are two kinds.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Has anyone done brugs in the oasis yet? I bought some cubes but they're too small.

I've done cuttings in special oasis cubes with fertilizer for cuttings. It was ok but nothing fabulous about it.I think it's better for leaf cuttings of violets and stuff.

I agree with Jeanne. It did work well for coleus, but actually, coleus will root laying on the ground. It worked well for shipping them though.

Oh great, now I know what to do with all those I bought and never used!
