What is this?????

What is this. I have never seen it on my monster brug before. Usually the whole stem falls off after the bloom fades. If this is a seed pod formation how do I save it as we are only a month or so away from having frost?? I have about 20 of them on it. Also if this is a seed pod formation can it be from a cutting of its self or is it from my Dr. Suess. I have a plant beside it that is a cutting of its self but i don't think it was blooming over the last couple of weeks. I hope it's Dr. Suess because the white is an incredible grower and it would be a good combonation I think. Nothing fases it. It has never even been bothered by bugs.

It must be from Dr Suess because they aren't self fertile.

Do you leave it in the ground all winter? If it freezes back the seed pods won't survive.

Yes it is in the ground. That is why I was wondering if I could try to save them by root cuttings or some how??

Donna, the above link has info, mavierose put some good links on that thread about airlayering, that is what i'm trying. some people last year did root branches with seed pods, the air layering is probably better though.

Thanks Arlene. I just hope I can find the moss this time of the year.

Donna, if you can't find the moss outside or at a garden center try a craft store, they usually have it.

Donna, home depot carries it, back by the orchids

I found some spanish moss. I think I will soak it and a peat pots and wrap around a few branches. That would probably help hold the moisture better, then some foil. Wish me luck.

Keep us posted. Another use for the darned peat pots.
