It's still cool and drizzly here. Other than making it kind of nasty for outside work it's wonderful. I'll continue to put iris and daylilies into permanent homes today and tomorrow. I do hope I will be done by tomorrow night.
I got at least 3 new colors of mums at Powell Gardens yesterday and got most of them set out last night. The other 2 are sitting in buckets of water being drizzled on all night. I still need to properly water in the others that got planted. The ground was so nice and moist and it was raining lightly so I didn't do it last night. I got some tender plants too. Several small succulents that I like, a large Persian Purple plant that is wilting terribly since I put it in a pot(the dirt may have been too cold to suit its roots), a large elephant ear bulb with three nice big shoots still on it and some tall thin stiff leaf plant of unknown identity. At first I thought it was some kind of iris but then noticed it has only roots not rhizomes. Then I thought of Cat Tails but there is no evidence of the tail stalks. I guess I'll take some back with me in a couple weeks and see what they tell me it is. I'm fairly sure it came from the island garden area. I'll pot it up and keep it fairly moist until I find out what it is.
Mary, how is the canning coming along? We still have lots of green tomatoes and a few ripening ones. Geen beans are long gone for us. I let the few of the last crop dry on the vine for seeds for next year since they are probably not a hybrid. I only planted Yard Long Asparagus beans this year. Kris saved some seeds from our vines because she said they did better than the ones she had from purchased seeds. Do you plant any fall garden? We do still have the Malabar 'spinach' growing.
I do hope we can hear from more of the farm family today. It seems everyone is really busy nowadays. So much to do to get ready for winter.
GOD bless and keep each and all of you.
