Lycoris not flowering

Antrim, Northern Ire, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

I got mine in a trade last year sometime from someone on here.

There are no flowers or buds so far. Does this mean they wont flower this year?

Probably not. Pretty much past the time for them to flower. Someone on this site (Smilin 32?) was nice enough to send me an article about this. Sometimes they don't bloom each year due to drought and other conditions. Maybe she'll see this post and help you out more. As long as you have the shoots coming up they are healthy. I guess patience is the word.

Mark,

They don't flower every year. My daughter's piano teacher remarked about this recently. She said that she thinks they must move underground each year because they pop up in one place one year then somewhere else the next year. Of course, the bulbs don't move underground. It's just a testimony to the odd flowering habits of the particular bulb.

The only other possible explanation is that they simply aren't large enough to put up blooms. The blooms shoot up (up to 18") as a single stem with no foliage. After the flower dies, the foliage will come up and remain until springtime. It usually takes the foliage around 2 weeks to start coming up after the flower blooms and dies back.

I also think I'm the one who sent you the bulbs. :)

Let me know if you need more information.
