Two new creations of Mme Blin

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

As every year, I visited Mme Blin. Here are two of her newest creation. In a few weeks, she will be 80 years old and she is, together with Mme Neu, the pioneer in Brugmansia hybridizing. I am proud, to know her and Mme Neu.

Sorry, its name is Firebird.

Hi Monika. These two are great. I love the red one, but it would be hard to choose between them. Does the first one have a name yet? Hope all is well with you. Later........S

Monika, those are absolutely beautiful. Mme Blin is an amazing hybridizer. What are the other two called? I bet you had a wonderful visit with her.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

OK,we are gunna die if we see anymore like this.Gorgeous!!!!!!!Mme Blin and you are 2 amazing people. The color...the tendrils....Will they be available to the public soon?

Can I ask, when you breed 2 together do you have an idea in your head of what you are expecting. What I mean is there certian characteristics that you are looking for?

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

The first hybrids name is Firebird.

We had a good time together, but the visit was very strainous for her. Her husband is 85 and had a small stroke last year. She doesnt want him to help her, so she digged up almost 100 plants herself and brought them into the basement. She is reducing her collection because of age and health.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh my!!!!!! Those are beautiful. I love all three of them and that red one is gorgeous. If only we had the genes in our Brugs to come up with these colors would be a dream come true. I have to agree that you and Mme Blin are wonderful hybridizers.

They are stunning! It amazes me, that whenever I think I have seen the best and the most beautiful new surprisingly beutiful and jaw-dropping ones comes around. Monika, when I saw the RK x EP that you posted I didn`t think Brugs could be more beautiful. This I still think, but especially Firebirdis close to be that. It appear to be plain red - almost with the same dark nuances and colorplay from an Amanita muscaria (Fly Agaric http://digilander.libero.it/fungocenter/fungocenter/images/Amanite/Amanita%20muscaria%205.jpg )

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

CC, my hybridizing plans are made in winter. Knowing the background of many plants, I have a clear picture, what I can expect - or not! Some real showy plants dont have any value for breeding.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Tonny, these flowers are smaller as of my hybrids but you recoignize the relationship. We name it linebreeding.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

those are beautiful, that one sure looks red!

More beauties....I hope I can do what Mme Blin does when I reach 60. Thanks for posting them Monika.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Please you three..... stay young forever! We need your' kind of hybridizing! They are all BEAUTIFUL!!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Oh my!!! Beautiful! Have these been released yet, or does she wait a year or two?

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

HINT...HINT...HINT the red one my favorite color Firebird so beautiful. I would like to have seeds few if you get the seeds from it. Monika???

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Just beautiful, all three. If you care to share Monika......... I was wondering, when you visit Mme. Blin, does she give you cuttings of her newest hybrids to try in your yard? How does she introduce them to the public? Does she sell them herself or sell them to nurseries so they can grow them and sell them? thanks

Doesn't getting old ruin everything?

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

OMG I have to have the Firebird. That is so beautiful.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

stunning. simply stunning. I hope there is someone trusting she's entrusting these to.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

I have a already rooted cutting of Firebird and several of Ballerina and Clarissa.

She has never sold a single cutting. They were taken from others as being granted. Some of these people didnt even thanked her after receiving a parcel nor offered to pay for the postage.
I have her permit to release and sell. We trade and this year, I gave her a young plant of my pink double, Rosa Zauber, for breeding purposes. I was dissappointed, seeing Rosa Zauber at her place. Its still small, but has a Y. I was hoping, that Rosa Zauber would do better in warmer climate and Mme Blin would be able get a seed pod on it. I hope also, that she stays healthy. She told me, that the gardenwork is getting too much for her.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

monika, please give her our birthday greetings and tell her we don't take them for granted. She's got a gift in those hands of hers as you do!

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Can you imagine how much knowledge is in their brains? If I just has 1/100 of it I would be able to come up a hybrid that was spectacular!

Wish there was a way to put all of that down on paper......thousands of sheets of paper!

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Monika, could you tell us a little bit about Mme Blinn? Has she been hybridizing brugs for a lot of years? Does she grow other plants too? or just brugs? She's created the some of the most beautiful brugs I've seen. I hope she can continue for a lot of years to come. Even if she does need to down-size the collection. I can't imagine digging up 100 brugs myself. I think I would have given up a long time ago! We're so glad that she hasn't.

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Monika I love the color and you must love the preson who did it. She sounds wonderful. We need to express and praise her for it.

These are truly beautiful!! She and you are both wonderful hybridizers.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Monika,
which day will you and Frank visit your sister or going shopping in town?

You gave all the cuttings and seedlings ( from your breeding ) to me, the rooted cuttings from Mme Blin I will "catch" when you are outside.......smilesmilesmile.
Your watchcats Fritzi and Peterle will not kill me, IŽll stopp at Mc Donalds in Alsfeld and will buy 1000s Hamburger
lol
Greetings Ludger

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

They are hidden where you wont find them, Ludger, LOL!
Fritzchen will be happy about the hamburgers, but he cant help you; LOL!

To answer all your questions: Mme Blin is hybridizing since 1970. In 1972, she met Mme Neu and living only 100km away, they visited each other and became very good friends.
Both are pioneers in hybridizing Brugmansias. Especially Mme Blins hybrids went to brugfanciers in many countries, even outside Europe. She grows Brugmansias only and her heart is dedicated to them.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Monika,
every time you talk about your friendship with Mme Blin and Frau Neu, I try to be very silent. I like to listen.....
It must have been a great time....
All your hybrids will tell about this time to our grandgrandchildren.
Greetings Ludger

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Monika, Will you tell her how much we appreciate the beauty that she has created along with the appreciation for the beauties that you have created yourself.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I just had to come back and look at these again. Just beautiful. I can only hope that in my lifetime I can produce one half as beautiful. You three have given so much and we are all so thankful and hope that one day, some of your creations will make it to the US.

Monika, you'd better lock all your doors and put Fritz and Peterle on high alert if Ludger is lurking in the woods. LOL
Maybe I should send Oscar over for a visit. He loves brugmansias and would watch over them.If you can get him off the bed.

Chipley, FL(Zone 8a)

Monika, these of some of the most beautiful!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Ludger - your dog looks like he wished you hadn't woken him
up! Is he part St.Bernard?

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

monika, your brugs are beautiful. Brugcrazy, I love that beautiful Boxer too. We have had five boxers over the past forty five years. Our last one died last year.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

Monika, what stunning specimens....my hat's off to Mme Blin!

Those dogs dont look very ferocious, I think that Fritz and Peterle could take them on any day - lol.

They are wonderful, the three of them! I like particularly Firebird for its colors....My Flamenco that you sent two weeks ago has got its first flower, Monika. Another wonder from Mrs Blin. Flowering in Andalousia with such a name is normal.
Sure the time is not far you will give us the first blue hybrid!! May I put it on my wishlist yet?
