Ground Pepper

Boonville, MO(Zone 5a)

What plants produces the typical pepper corns that you grind in a pepper mill? I am looking for black pepper, white pepper and what ever else there is. Also, are the pepper corns seeds, or how are they produced?

Well, I found some info:

Now, if only I can find the plant. Anyone have any ideas where to find it and if it will grow in zone 5? It looks like a very pretty vine.

I seen the plant on Ebay that has produces White Pepper

If I remember correctly it is a definate tropical plant. Not hardy in very many spots in the US, but a greenhouse...don't know.

here's a good link.. http://www.desert-tropicals.com/Plants/Piperaceae/Piper_nigrum.html if you tried to start some peppercorns (black ones) soaked first you may be able to grow it in a greenhouse.

I think I saw some on a website, seeds that is. It's a site that speacializes in rainforest and tropical seeds. The address is www.driftwoodgardens.com
I have a catalouge of theirs, and I thought the seeds were in there. We go through pepper like mad and I thought I could kill 2 birds w/1 stone; get pepper, grow pretty plants. Check it out, it may be fruitful<:) (pun fully intended)

I checked out the site Angel, and they still have black pepper vine seeds. The latin is Piper Nigrum and they say it isn't that radically hard to grow.
