OK ,the GH is up,plants are in,way too crowed,I moved some into the house.Have the small fan blowing air and billowing out the sides.
HEAT is the problem right now.Have a small ceramic heater in there. Its staying around 45 at nite in there even though the temperature out side at night has been in the 20's/
had a guy from the local heating company come out to give me an estimate on heat for in this itty bitty GH 10 x 20,13 foot tall in the peak.
Wait ...its coming........
$1,750.......
snivil......my loan to pay for it was approved today...so sad....at least it will be toasty warm this winter for the plants....
The good part is that the furnace will be put in the garage and heat the garage too.Thats the only way Chuck went for it.There will be duct work run through the wall into the GH.Just have to keep everything un frozen for 3 weeks....
All I need now is my GH inspection.I lost the guys phone # that I'm suppose to call.....can't find the website either...
Inside....
It's another JUNGLE! LOL. Looks great!
Oh Wow, it's a Jungle in there!! Did you check into a hanging furnace unit like garages and things use? We have a Modine gas furnace. It hangs from the ceiling. The ones in the big greenhouses run around $1000 each, the one in the Jungle House was much less--$50 I think, I got it used, from an old garage they were tearing down. It needed a couple of parts, but works great. Ours are gas, but they have them as oil or propane too. The ones in the big houses are 250,000 BTU, the Jungle House one is 60,000 BTU. If it's 20 outside and I want it 80 inside, it will do that. It runs with a thermostat. I keep my minimum @45-50*F but have heat mats for things that like it warmer.
Goodness gracious! That is a very expensive heat system, CC. What kind is it? Electric? Gas?
Our ghouse is heated like Cala's...propane heaters (200,000 btu), and it was only $800.
Hope you can check around before losing your savings. Sounds like a small heater like Cala uses would benefit you very well.
(Course now, if your heat in there is staying around 45* (w/20* ourside) that will keep plants alive. (MOst of the winter I only heat to about 50* at nite.)
Glad you got your house up, and operating! It sure looks nice in there! You'll be sitting in there in a rocking chair reading books one day! A very pleasant environment, eh?
Oh wow! Before you buy the heater, check out Southernburner.com. I have one of their heaters and am very happy with it. Easy to install, keeps things warm, and small so it doesn't take up valuable plant space. Their heaters run about $500.
Yes I got the southern burners paperwork.,And I did check into the garage type heaters. They said because the GH was so small, and the size I'd need to keep it warm, that I'd give up half the room just to have the heater in there.
Don't forget ,it gets to -25 or more here....sometimes for days....and tons of snow...got to keep it warm enough to keep it melted.Lake effect snow can come down at 3 to 4 inches or more an hour......
The main reason I decieded on the one I'm getting,is that the GH is attached to the garage, which we are turning into our living room.So ,if I get this furnace I can heat the GH AND my new living room...or I can buy a heater for the GH AND one for my new living room.
The reason the garage is going to be the living room is so our living room can become our bedroom. We can just close off the upstairs and stop trying to heat it.plus now I will be able to sit in my living room and look at my wannabe jungle!
karen it all sounds wonderful! i still havent found a heater for mine. My dh keeps saying he wants to get some prices and he has been working lots of OT to pay for my co-op problem(lol)and hasnt had time to check on any. I bet when the electric bill comes he will figure out what we are doing and fast! ;]
Your gh looks wonderful!
I'm not looking forward to my electric bill either....that why I'm doing something quick!
are you getting it inspected because it's now a business or do you mean the building inspectors??? wish you great luck, I know you will enjoy it this winter
Lot of problems getting these things done. I'm sure you will love it!
I have a 10' x 21' room in house, lots of windows, heated by furnace, very reasonable, never needed a GH, untill this year. Have plants in 4 rooms, florescent lights, plants in basement....sigh, think I'm addicted!
