Butterfly on lantana

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

Took this picture of a butterfly on Hannibul's grave. Not easy...silly thing would fly just when I was ready to click. The "stump" in the background is one of my natural birdfeeders..it gets sunseed, mixed seed and in winter p-butter/seed mix on it.

Great photo! It must be nice to have those in your garden - we don't have the Palamedes Swallowtail (Papilio palamedes) out west. I visited a friend in Sarasota once where I saw my first (and only) one! If you want more info about this species, try here:http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/resource/distr/lepid/bflyusa/usa/710.htm

Thanks for the link, Bugguy! We get a lot of these here. I think my favorite that visits is black and blue..black form of eastern swallowtail?? The pictures in my guide and your link differ. Next time I see one I'll try for a picture.

Nice! Don't you just love the way Lantana brings them in? They are one of the best butterfly attractors in my yard.
