I started several varities (Gimaldi X Ecuador Pink, Yellow Whiskers X Eucador Pink, Frosty Pink) from seed on 9-5-02. I also have Frosty Pink, Jane Pasco, Isabella, & Sunray cuttings I potted the same day. Right now most are getting ready to be put in the ground. They are about 2-3 feet tall and well covered with beautiful leaves. Is there anything else I need to do with them before setting them in the ground? What is the best type of light and soil for them?
We hardly ever get any serious frost here, 2 time a year max it will get to almost freezing or freezing, then never for more than a few hours. At what point do I need to worry about the frost damaging my babies? Should I wait until spring before putting them in the ground so I could move them inside if I had to?
Thanks for your patience all and any info you can give me to help my babies get the best start they can.
Totally Newbie Brug grower question or two, :-)
Suncoast, what nice plants!!!!! I can give you no help, as I am in zone 4b! Wahhhhhh.............everything here that was outside is now dead, have had a few killing frosts now. But, my bruggies are all snug and cozy up in my new greenhouse!
Annie, we bring them in here. I think Arlene would be the best one to ask, she's close to your zone. I would just plant them in the ground and have row covers handy for the coldest nights. Mine have taken 39*F without damage.
Cala, thank you so much! That is exactally what I needed to hear. Mike has made several pvc pipe and plastic covers for me so that if a frost threatens I can at least cover some of my plants.
I actually have 4 more flats of 30 plants each that are just now getting good growth on them. They were started from seed also but only about a month or so ago. I am going to be totally overrun with brugs (I HOPE! LOL)
