I just dug mine today, and found three beautiful purple sweet potatos, two huge and one tiny. What a nice surprise! I did go looking for them, but wasn't expecting much!! John

I did not know if they grow potatoes or not, I just planted one in the garden, and it was rather pot bound, so no potatoes. I am hoping it can over winter, because I am zone 10 and the tag says hardy to 30 degrees. We usually don't get to 32.

Update, we got to 40 and it is not making it, that tag is clearly incorrect. It will not make it, oh well, live and learn.

I have just dug and disposed of three sweet potato vine plants that grew beautifully all summer long. We've had some frost over the past couple of weeks that turned the vine brown immediately. Anyway, they cascaded over a retaining wall covering approximately 25 feet in diameter. It was beautiful!
To my very unexpected surprise, I found at least 20 sweet potatos attached to the vines, varying in size. Is this edible and if so, can anyone share any recipies or cooking tips?
