Ok -- my eyes were bigger than my yard (again LOL) soooo I have two amarylis that I need to plant up (got them in the co-op) I live in Maryland, so I know they can't go outside. But when should I plant them in side???
amarylis when to plant??
Happyoma,
Why do you say they can't stay outside? How cold do your winters get? I leave mine here in Ga. out planted year round and they bloom like mad. Yall are not that much cooler than here, are you? By the way, my son just moved from Laurel to Florida. cjs41
We get hard freeze here from Nov. to March. The ground just heaves with the freeze. I am not lthrilled with this little town - ask your son - Bowie is so much nicer for a small town and the shopping is so much better -- LOL .....
Happyoma... I'm with you about planting the amaryllis inside, and liking Bowie better. (Ex-resident of Herald Harbor riverfront in Crownsville, and with good friends in Bowie)
There are previous threads on amaryllis here in DG. Just enter amaryllis in the Search box and you should fiind lots.
I'm going to pot mine up around the first of Nov, they should bllom in time for Christmas, I'm giving some as gifts.

I checked out the search on amaryllis, but couldn't find a topic on cutting back the stems. Do you treat them like daffs, iris and wait intil all foliage is brown?
Mine never turn brown. I stop watering them when dry I cut back the foilage and put them in a dark, cool closet for 6-8 weeks.
I take them out and start watering; they take right off and bloom like a champ.
Paul
Thanks Paul, but I forgot to mention that I don't have to dig them up, they can stay in ground year round here.
