I have my burgs planted in the ground in a protected area. If I decide to leave them there for the winter, with a lot of mulch covering them, how close to the ground do I trim them when I take cuttings? Any help will be appreciated.

Help needed taking cuttings
I think I am in the same zone as you. I'm in the mtns of NC which used to be zone 6 but has changed to 7A, so close enough. My understanding is that if you leave them outside, they will die back completely. I suppose it is worth the effort to try to mulch them and see if they come back but the tops will die off completely. So I don't think it matters how many cuttings you take because the whole top will die off from cold.
I'm in 7a and they die completely to the ground. Most of mine come back, except the ones in raised beds and the ones planted late, they don't always make it. I pile leaves from raking the yard on them for mulch.
