Now that my first frost is just around the corner.

What should I do?? I have several that I planted in the ground just last week and so I need to know what to do now.
My sister wants cuttings but where do I cut them off at?? I have several that I got from Stormy19(Jackie) and most of them haven't Y-ed off yet. So where should I cut them??
HELP!!! I don't want to mess them up to where the cuttings wont root!! I know I have read several threads on the how to's and all but I just can't get the jist of it.
Someone PLEASE explain!!

Hi Molly,

if there is no Y at the brugs, you can take the cuttings wherever you want. The cuttings should be already a little "woody or wooden ". I mean not green twigs.
Put the cuttings in a cup with water for some days and then grow in light soil and keep them pretty dry. Most time they will root.
Wish you Luck

Molly, I don't know if you got them in the ground soon enough. They need time to get established in the ground. If we have a very mild winter, you're probably okay but it's iffy.

In Europe nobody keeps Brugs outside in Zone 7.
You have to wait for buds till next winter. If the brugs will survive the winter.

Molly,

night time temperatures in the high desert is down to 39*F, all my brugs are on the ground. buds galore all over each plant. i did take some precaution by taking cuttings and started some in small pots just in case.

winter last, i left one brug on the ground. it came back to life when weather got warmer. the brug i do intend to cover with big plastic bags, in the event the temp goes down to 20*F. am keeping my fingers crossed that they do not die back. hth.

Well shoot!!! Looks like I might have messed up then by planting them this late huh?! O well maybe I should just take a few cuttings for myself and my sister! I knew I should have studied up on these things way before winter time temps set in!! This is just my luck!!

Molly - why don't you just dig them back up and pot them, let them go dormant in the house somewhere - then they will bloom earlier next summer instead of waiting til Fall - at least that is what I am hoping for!!

Good idea Azalea! That is what I would do!

Ludger, I had Datura wrightii and Datura inoxia survive outside in zone 7. These would be gonners by - 1 *C frost. Brugs can take a few degrees more. I will try and overwinter a few I have planted in the ground and report back in the spring.

Tis a good idea but I had to plant them b/c I am toooo tight for space in the house! I wish that was a option for me but I simply don't have any room at all in here for plants come winter time! :(
