abbreviations of names

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

I am new to this and when it is said DxS L or M or R I have no idea what it is. Would it be to much to ask if for a week or two you put the names or is there a place I can find out what it means. Thanks Donna

I don't think a week of no abreviations will help you Donna..I've brought this up before and I've been here for nearly a year and i still don't have a clue what some of those abbreviations mean! It's easy to understand RK=Rothkirch, CG=Charles Grimaldi, Dr.S=Dr.Seuss etc. but i give up when i come to DxS L etc.

all you have to do when you see one you don't know is ask. DxS L is a hybrid that Eric sent out last year. That's why we're trying to name it in the other thread.

Donna, whenever you come across a term like that, try doing a search of Dave's Garden for it (the search box is in the right-hand column. It will show you all the threads where that abbreviation has shown up, and most likely the first one or two will include the background on the plant.

Or, as tiG has suggested - just plunge right in and ask :)

gv, forgot all about that. I did a search on the DxS L myself to get all Eric's notes.

oops...why didn't i think of that! LOL

DonnaB, don't feel badly. I've been here about a year and I still have brain blocks and can't think of what the letters are referring to. Would be a great idea if someone would make a list of all that we have up to this date that could be printed off.

D x S means Dr. Seuss was the mommy and Solid Gold was the daddy. This cross, by Eric, produced seeds. From those seeds came three especially pretty brugs that bloomed the first year for him. He designated them as L, M and R rather than give them "names".

Thanks for the help.

The mommy, I assume is the plant that flowered and birthed the seeds? LOL Does the mommy always hold the position on the left, the first initial and the pollen donor, the daddy, is it always the second (x whatever)? This is good info for us newbies. :)
