Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello farmers. Brrrr. It isn't summer anymore, especially at night. The past 3 nights have been down to 25*. I hope my beans and tomatoes survived under the blankets. Later today when it warms up a little more I will see what I have, compost or something to pick and can. Meanwhile there are lots of ripe tomatoes that have been on a table in the basement that are going to be in jars in just a little while.
My weekend ride went very well, the nights were down to about 20 and we had half an inch of ice on the water buckets, but the horses had heavy blankets on and didn't seem to notice the cold. I had cold face, hands, feet and knees when I started the ride but it eventually warmed up to a nice comfortable temperature, in the low 60's. As soon as the sun went down so did the temperature, fast! The furnace in the trailer keeps things toasty inside and I am very thankful for it.
I have an update on my friend Tim's condition that I will post sometime today in the prayer forum. For now, his progress continues and there are encouraging signs.
Back to the tomatoes, count your blessings.
