Question about falling buds

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

I have noticed that Butterfly and Eventide have lost quite a few buds lately. Butterfly even dropped some seed pods(plus I think customers are helping themselves to ones they can reach over the fence even though they are still very immature). Butterfly and Eventide were simply overloaded with buds, do plants shed some if they have too many? I mean, these guys had a bud or three on every leaf axil. I thought it was where the one Butterfly got too dry when it blew over in the storm, but the other 2 plants didn't blow over and haven't dried out at all. Could it be the cool nights(down into the 50's) that's making them drop?

Cala, With the really cool temps we've been having up here I've noticed a lot of buds dropping on mine too. I've also lost a few small seed pods. The larger pods are hanging on though.

I actually had many more buds drop during the hotter weather than recently during the cool weather.....and I had lots more buds on the plants during the cool weather.

We need the experts to answer the question though....I have only been raising 'em for one year:)

Hibiscus thought the cold weather made hers drop. Maybe it's extreme changes in temp. Ya know... hot one day & cold the next?? Who knows! Mine started dropping with the consistantly cold nights. The big buds seemed to hang on. The littler ones drop.

Poppysue and Snow, that's what has happened here, mostly smaller buds, only a few varieties were really affected. The big pods are fine too, just the little seedpods. We have had hot one day, cool the next, so that might be it too.

Yes maybe they know winter is coming and trying to conserve their energy for their dormancy. ??

Maybe Gloria, MSJen, Roz, Irish, and I can let you know what happens to ours as it is supposed to get down to 50 tonight or tomorrow night after being in the mid to upper 80's. My suaveolens white is loaded and Dr Suess has a few.

I haven't notice any buds falling off except for the HG but I haven't been looking very hard either. LOL Normally my Brugs do thier best in the spring and fall here due to our extended heat.

I am losing alot of my buds, my variegata did have 20+ buds and I think I am down to 3. Had 16 on Cool Blush that DH got me from BWard and I think I only have 2 left. If only one could hold on long enough to open . . would be great! Along with some others. But all my unknowns seem to be able to hang on to theirs.

My white seedlings have no trouble at all keeping their buds.
