Very pretty flowers MVR. You're doing a great job. It must be a lot of work just to keep them watered in the summertime.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Finally you are being rewarded for all you hard work and patience. Very nice pictures.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks. yes, Yes, YES!!! all the patience and hard work finally paid off. whew!!! would u believe all these time i was so stress out, not knowing if those brugs will make it or not. faith and belief carried me through. TG!!!

Snow, watering wasn't really a big task cause these brugs are planted on a downhill space. i created a terrace on each brug planted on the ground. soon as the 1st area got filled with watered, the overflow goes to the next one. pretty nipty idea i think.

i also have to grow all my plants close to each other so each plant support themselves against the strong winds that is very prominent in the desert.

if not mistaken, i still have until the end of Nov. to enjoy them on the ground, when u guys are taking it easy and relazing, i will be working my buns off LOL!!!

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

They look beautiful. It is very rewarding when you finally get those blooms.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Your hard work paid off. They are beautiful.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks. indeed all hardship finally paid off :)

hey Jim, check the EP almost the same height as ur solid gold... hehehehehe. the flowers is far longer than the plant itself.

Calera, OK(Zone 7b)

MVR, very pretty. Do you have to take yours inside for the winter? I know that it gets cold there in Hesperia. I lived in Rialto, down the hill, for a lot of years and my burgs stayed in the yard year round. Here in Oklahoma that doesn't happen but I probably still have a month before I have to bring them in. I was in Hesperia, visiting family on Lincoln St. two weeks ago.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

very nice Mavie,at least you have blooms on EP.mine is still small....wait till next year!

Hempstead, TX(Zone 8b)

they all look so wonderful ma vie.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks everyone. i sure am a proud mama of these brugs :)!

Janette, the brugs do die back on this area. the weather here is very unpredictable. so far the coldest i've experienced here is 10*F. the common ones, i do leave on the ground and heavy mulch to cover them. the few i cherished i bring indoors. once the temperature warms up in May is when i take them back outside.

observant as i am, i will be doing some experiments this winter to see how this brugs will react to the conditions in this area. so far, i found Isabella do come back to life after brief cold treatment on the ground.

this winter i will be propagating duplicate of each variety: 1 pot, i will keep indoor, and the other i will leave in the covered carport, since i do not have a green house... this will be the only way for me to find out which one will be hardy, if ever. hth

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

You have done a wonderful job of taking care of them. The water drainage is a great idea. We southerners will still be woring on ours to in November to. I don't cut mine until they expect a frost. It breaks my heart to have to destroy all those blooms.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

marvelous, marvelous, marvelous

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

tiG, u know i tried my best to grow these brugs. so far with all the TLC i've given them, it finally paid off. next year, i won't be as anxious as i have this year. i have learned how long it takes for them to grow and store energy for the flowers to bloom, and when the plants will begin to bloom here in the desert. thanks to everyone who has given me the opportunity to grow them w/out a doubt.

i know what u mean Donna, but i looked at it in a positive way. in as much as i was given the chance to grow them, i feel it is but fair on my part to share what i have with others too.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

MaVie . . I am so happy that you have blooms now. You have been dilligently been caring for your brugs and now you are being rewarded for all you work. Very pretty.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Welcome back Frannie and thanks :)! i am so glad u made it safe home. yes, finally i have gotten over my phobia in growing brugs. i guess the stressed i've been through was due to lack of knowledge or experience in growing one. now, i can proudly say, i know how to deal with them from here on in. i've been observing closely how each variety reacts to my environment. next year will be a better year for growing brugs!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

well you sure have some great looking brugs Ma Vie!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Welcome back Ms. Kell! boy do i sound like a welcoming committee here LOL! how was ur trip?

yeah finally all the hardwork paid off. would u care for some to add to ur pepto garden?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You are so sweet Ma Vie!! Even though mine have not bloomed........ :(( ............... I have these!!! Yours are so pretty. You really did it well and much better than I did and I have easier brug conditions.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Kell,

since Osmocote it too expensive for my budget, i use Ultra Vigoro 12-5-7. it is timed -release formula that feeds for up to 3 months. a 5 lb bag cost only less than $5.00 @ HD. when i started applying late July is when i notice lots of buds forming on all the brug on the ground. i did not feed again, only foliar feeding with Shultz 20-20-20, a 5 lb box is also less than $5.00 once a week.

todate, all the brugs is still loaded with buds.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

MaVie . . now you can relax and enjoy your brugs. It sounds as if you have figured out how to grow brugs in the desert. I think you have done great!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

MaVie, you have done good. a warning though, that i have just figured out with brugman's help, every winter that they freeze back there are less blooms the next year. made for quite a disappointing brug year for me.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Frannie. u should try the Vigoro since it gets activated at 72*F. i could not find Eclipse fertilizer recommendation of 12-4-18 locally, nor Monica's 12-2-22. i thought Vigoro would do it too... and it did work for me. sometimes we have to improvise and see what will work. i guess that is the reason why nursery supplier only carry certain stuff applicable to our locality.

i've taken tip cuttings of barely opened buds, make a nice floral arrangement... it perfumes the whole place at night! i can enjoy them both inside and outside too.
