Hi,
someone here told us, that the HG will have buds...I never have seen a photo from flowers. What about it?
Greetings Ludger
Herrenhäuser Gärten
Thought YOU were going to show us a picture. Have never seen any bloom to date.
Mine has not even made a Y this year....am gonna overwinter it in my basement and give it one more year to bloom:)
Ludger, mine has had buds on two ocassions. The first set dropped, but these last ones are hanging on. The only problem is that I don't have a winter greenhouse, so I had to bring the plant into my garage and hope that I can take it out during the day for light and that it will bloom. Right now, I must say that this doesn't look like a good brug for my area. May change my mind if it blooms well for me.
Mine has a bud about 4 inches long right now but I'm not counting on a flower....last time it got a large bud the thing fell off.
My first buds cooked on the plant. No chance of that now, but they could drop due to the cold. Freeze tonight.
Gloria, I sure hope Ron gets to come home on Monday. Bet this has been hard on both of you.
Ludger it sure is beautiful. I've had mine since last year and it hasn't Y'd yet. It's got one more year and then it gets composted.
Yes do it
Its very beautiful, Ludger. Its amazing, how you got this one to bloom. I had several buds, but they fell off and I am on the lookout for alternatives and maybe a plant, that can maintain the look of HG and at the same time improve its blooming capabillity. I found this one, Cream sicle. How does this one bloom? In flushes or one by one? Does it loose many buds? What is its optimal conditions?

Wow that is beautiful.
Tonny, Creamsickle blooms pretty much in flushes, and is ALWAYS making buds. every 2-3 weeks i have had a flush since summer. the pic they used is "one of the best". lots of the skirts do not drop. when they don't drop they look like stuffed double white only 3X as big! they DO NOT change color uniformly to become all peach like the pic, at least mine hasn't, although for a while i thought i may have mixed the label up with double peach because of the color. my flowers haven't lasted particularly a long time. but i am in hot humid humid florida, hoping for a show in the fall when temps drop. we're supposed to get in the low 60s at night at the end of this week, usually have a dip into the 40s around halloween.
I forgot to say, creamsickle has quite fluffy pollen, lots of it, but i have not been able to get it to take on anything, and nothing has stuck on it either.

Tonny,
My creamcicle has not changed color--white with long cream droped 2nd skirt.
HG update:
Well that nice size bud I had fell off....there must be something that can be done to keep the buds from falling off.....maybe super glue!!!!
I just chopped my HG up today and packaged up cuttings to send out. Lost my patience with that one:)
Owen,
If I didn't have a greenhouse for it to stay in this winter I would do the same thing.
WhileI look for alternatives to grow or to breed with for improvement I still wait for mine to bloom. Next season I let it remain in the WG and expose to higher and higher levels of temperature alternating with cold nights. In period 1 I will keep high humidity and period 2 closer to dry air. I hope then she will whisper her secrets for blooming. One thing is sure. Cool environment doesn`t do the trick. *LOL* I will study equatorial climates and try to copy them in the WG. Another thing could be, that it is a summer bloomer from the other side of equator. That mean, that for us in the northern half of the globe it will be a winter bloomer. Well, a hot as heck winter garden lighted up by christmas dinner candles and HG in full flush, - well, that is romantic. *LOL*
Romantic
Tonny,
My HG is in a pot that is in the ground so when I relocate it for the winter I don't have to disturb it. I promise not to give up on it and maybe one day it will bloom. :0)
