Datura seeds, Did I leave them too long

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

on the vine? had them wrapped in nylons, and looks like they are starting to sprout. the other two are from another white datura. I didn't have them wrapped. Should I open them now? they did bloom later.

Liz: the seeds look fine, finish drying them out. The seedpods you picked will problably not open on their own, so you might go ahead and open them and try to get the seeds out. The seeds will be very wet, let them dry well. I use a crochet hook or a nut picker to get the seeds out of datura.

Debby's right. Your seeds are fine. It is normal to have that little white thingy on the seeds. Tonny may know what it is called.LOL

yes, darling cousin Jo,(roadrunner) sent me the seeds. the other devils claw still have the green covering on them.
REDROSE, glad to see you back on DG.
WBG, I was afraid the little white things was going to be bad news. glad to hear they are fine.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

That sounds like a good idea Redrose (RR). Works fine for me! Thanks.
By the way, when you get straightened out you realize most of DG will help you get plants going again. Just say the word!

LizH...glad you posted this...reminds me to go along the road and see about some wild Datura seeds...and your Devil's Claw looks a bit larger than the one I saw at shoes. Jo

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

They grow wild in AZ? What color have you seen?

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

"looks larger than the one I saw at shoe's"....nyahh nyahh nyahhh...♫♫♫
Sheesh....the ones you saw were the result of a drought you good-lookin' hambone! I declare, I declare, I declare!...
However, you just wait! One day I'm gonna grow em so big they'll snag a dumptruck off the roadway! And flip it over so it begs for mercy! You'll see! You'll see!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Shoe, the ones growing on my yard reaches to 5' tall. spreads betw. 4-5 wide for the Black Currant Swirl. the low growing ones is the white flowers with lilac tint along the edges, grows to 3' tall and spreads to 5' wide. all prolific bloomers.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

The size of your low-growing ones sound like our wild ones here MaVie, (size-wise), but ours have the lavender/purple flower...(Datura stramonium?). Haven't see a Black Current swirl. Will go check out that database.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

look no further Shoe, here's the url ... http://davesgarden.com/t/308330/ this one probably is what u call the purple datura.

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

That is beautiful, but I thought you were talking about Devils Claw. It has purple blooms.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Hmmm...lizh, yo're right. I need to go see if mine have gotten any size since rr was here. Also better collect some seeds from them if I'm gonna grow some giant ones next year.
We've had so much rain maybe it'll kick em in high gear now.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

i've search high and low, this is the only one i find that mention devil's claw ... http://plantsdatabase.com/go/333/ i don't think it is a datura

N.C. Mts., NC(Zone 6b)

Thanks MaVieRose, I knew the devil's claw wasn't a Datura but we kept going back & forth, and guess my brain got stuck in park.
Jo, do you have Datura that grow in the wild in AZ ??
