Hi everybody, I just wondered if it'd be ok to bring in my water hyacints and make kinda an indoor garden. Either a whiskey barrell lined or a large container, and put a few fish in there with a pump and some grow lights over them? Do you think it'll work? I'm really wanting to give it a shot, because I have some really big one's. Probably over a foot around and lots of babies.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Water Hyacinth ? Need Advice!
Traci... I have overwintered my hyacinth in a wading pool and covered with poly...now I have a smaller pond I cover and winter them!
Hey, Do ya think if I can bring them indoors and putthem in a large storage container. It is deep and I could fit a pump and some fish. I thought I'd put a few lights over it and see how it does? What do ya think?
it can't hurt Traci, and then you can sell or trade them first thing in the spring, when everyone needs them
Nope...They will not survive inside...I have tried this! But you can try!
Mine mutiply even in winter in my smaller pond...you will lose the larger ones to cold!
Believe me I have overwintered them for 4 yrs!
I remember seeing this subject come up before and the consensus was that they were hard to overwinter inside. The woman that runs pond shop where I bought my koi also sold me 3 water hyacinths and she said they are treated as annuals here. We are in zone 6b (although changing to 7a) and her shop is even higher in altitude so probably 6A. They don't even recommend making an effort...
my sis just sent me a bag full from al-whaat do i do with
them?
