Various gourd seeds for pocket change

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

All,

Several weeks ago I posted a thread about any interest in a gourd seed exchange. Seems like most of us had gourds, but they needed to dry before we'd have any seeds to exchange.

Knowing that I'll want to start my gourds earlier next year, I went ahead and bought a variety of seeds. The total cost with shipping & handling was $30.00. I have 18 packages of seeds with about 20 seeds per packet. That totals 360 seeds.

I have the following seed varieties and here is a link to an identification chart that may help -- *** http://www.gourdsbyjeanie.com/gourd_suppliers.htm ***

Birdhouse Gourds (small kettle)
Egg Gourds
Short Handle Dipper Gourds
Mini-Bottles
Indonesian Bottles (GONE)
Japanese Bottles
Mexican Bottles
Chinese Bottles
Penguin Gourds (GONE)
Maranka Gourds (GONE)
Apple Gourds (GONE)
Large Kettle Gourds (GONE)

If anyone would like to sample some gourd seeds, all I need is 50 cents for 5 seeds of one variety. I don't want to break them into packets any smaller than five seeds. So, if you wanted to try Penguin, Japanese Bottles and Maranka gourds, you'd need to send me $1.50 plus SASE. You would receive 5 seeds of each of the three varieties you specified. This is the best price I could find on the internet AND with the extra seeds they provided, I was able to lower the overall price per seed.

It's first come, first serve. Also, I've more of some varieties than others. If you email me and your message bounces back, please try again. My inbox is so full that I am trying to keep it purged in order that new messages can be received.

Please do confirm that I have what you want before sending the SASE.

Mine is going out in the a/m mail....since there was no mail today. Be on the lookout for it!

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

You bet, Mollybee! I kept checking my mail box today for other items and I FINALLY realized it was a holiday for the post office ~ duh. So, off I went to the post office I went to drop my mail into their boxes after I realized I wouldn't be seeing my dearest mailman today. He does deliver such joy each day I see him :)

My DH is dropping mine off at the post office on his way to work. He just left a few minutes ago so will be in the drop box shortly

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Great! As soon as I receive, I'll have them ready to go right into the mail since everyone has said exactly what they want in advance :)

I just noticed this thread and I hope I not too late to get some seeds? I am not sure what I want, so I can take any you may have left over and don't want any more. I got a couple of gourds books at the library to look over.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Not a problem, Bug_Girl. I think the only two that I am low on right now are the maranka & the large kettles. Take your time & let me know what you'd like via email.

I think that I've plenty of all the others to go around...

Hi Morph.... I would like a sample of each... or of all the ones you have left! Thanks P.K.

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

Sure, PK! Just email me and I'll send you my addy :) I've been able to get the price down to 50¢ per 5 seeds of each variety. Probably the best you'd find by cost unless you want to trade. Right now I'm low on Maranka variety & Large Kettles, too, I think...

That leaves about 10 varieties for which I still I still have seeds available. Regards...

Received mine and I thank you.

Count me in too! I'll e-mail you seperately when I figure out which ones I want.

Is there a particular website that has pictures of these various gourds, as well as, descriptions of each?

Thanks so much for making all these different varieties available :~)

San Francisco, CA

I was asking about a web site, as well, but I could not find a good one. I got some library books, that had a few color photos, one is called "the gourd book". Still I want a book with complete gourd id, someone should create one. Maybe if we upload all the gourds to the data base, that can be a resource?

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

IRIS, I think your post & my email crossed paths.

MollyBee & CoCo ~ I'm so happy they arrived safe & sound. Enjoy!

Everyone, I did put the site from which I purchased these seeds into the Garden Watch Dog. The name is "Gourd Bird Houses" and here is a link -- http://www.gourdbirdhouses.com/GourdSeeds.html

Also, the identification chart is at this link --http://www.gourdsbyjeanie.com/gourd_suppliers.htm

Hopefully, y'all can get what you want...

Hello Morph;
You have mail!

Summerwind,

I may have accidentally deleted your email. If so, I apologize. I had a very full email box and I purged it since I didn't recognize any of the names as they were mostly spams. You can resend or repost here if you like.

Also, I was thinking about a gourd seed exchange, too, if others have gourds that have dried yet. I'll inquire and we'll see if that's a possibility, too :)

Regards,
Morph

Hi Morph

I've been having BAd comp. problems.

Sorry, I just got back into the site.

I purchased some gourds for birds.

What do I do now??

So, you've got the gourd itself? What are you interested in doing? If it is dry, we've some great people & links on this site about how they've decorated their gourds. I've gotten a few books from the library myself. Are you just interested in harvesting the seeds from the gourd? Let me know what path you're thinking about and I can post some links depending upon what your interest is :)
