The whole pod is kinda mushy. Parts have started to turn yellow. Also, after picking, do I need to let the seeds dry out before planting? Thanks in advance.
When to pick brug seed pod?
its ripe go ahead a pic it the seeds should be dark brown inside
Thanks irish. How long and any special treatment of seeds before planting.
What is the pod on? I bet your hummers do lots of pollinating for you. I'm pretty sure it's okay to plant the seeds straight outta the pod but if you want to keep them for planting later make sure you dry them well first.
HN, you can plant right away. you can also let dry, usually takes a day, then store. who is your mom and do you know the dad? also what kind of hummers do you have? Ruby throats still there? mine left 2 weeks ago, saw a straggler last week. they left early, seems like the left on the winds of hurricane isidore.
arlene, this is the pod I came home with. Dug this plant up for him yesterday as I found a smaller Shirleys Peach in another bed.
oh my, a traveling brug!!!
tiG sent me home with the whole dang tree in my car yesterday, thanks tiG. Just opened pod, must have 50 - 100 seeds. ? will seeds from this plant produce varied colored plants or true to shirleys peach?
always surprises!!! seeds never come true on most brugs. (not sure about sangs and stuff, we can't grow them here)
I still have plenty of hummers. I usually get down to 15 - 20 sometime between the 15 - 25 of Oct. Usually have a few straglers still around the 1st of Nov., by the 10th of Nov. all gone. Any hummer I have after the 15th of Nov that is feeding on a feeder will be caught and banded for identification, 99 out of 100 not a ruby.
I plant mine straight out of the pod too.
I still have a few hummingbird stragglers here, all females. One has decided it likes the Jungle House, loves the passifloras. It goes in and out a vent(no cage or fan there).
