Susie, isolation plastic material

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Susie, the german name is Luftpolsterfolie (air cushing plastic). Nurseries and private people used it, to isolate their Ghes in the winter. It saves 60% of the heating costs.
The plastic is UV stabilized and long lasting.
Cala might know, where to get it, since she has a nursery, to my knowledge.

Snow, I think Charley's Greenhouse has this stuff.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Monika, Thanks so much for posting the picture.I can see where it would save heat with the air pockets. The plastic I'm using is UV rated and guaranteed for 6 yrs but it doesn't have much insallation ability with our cold temps. I will look into this and see how expensive it is.
Thanks Brugie, I'll check out Charlie's.

Monika, I think a place called Stuppys has it, will have to check for other sources. We use double layers of 6 mil UV treated plastic that has air forced between the layers. It's great insulation and if we need snow melted off the outside, we turn the heat up a bit and open the fan to force the hot air between the layers. I think the plastic that you showed would be great for small houses, or to separate areas inside the greenhouse, maybe keep older plants cooler, small new plants warmer?

We have these types of Ghses too. But many nurseries use this isolation plastic.

Visited with tiG yesterday. She & DH were the best. Great plants & yd. She loaded me up with plants & cuttings. Her brugs are beautiful. Can't wait to go back in the spring. I meant to start a new thread, sorry.

Can you read the words on the pages behind the plastic, kell? It answers your question, LOL!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

LOL Monika.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Well Monika, I never said I was the sharpest knife in the drawer...............and I did wonder why your name was on the bubble wrap!!! I just figured you had it made up specially for your brugmansias.............. and they labelled it for you! LOL

Kell,

I use bubble wrap that comes from furniture stores. There are large pieces that they ship sofas/tables etc. I staple it on interior lower part of my Gh in winter. Even though I live in the south, it cuts down on heating.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, even though my greenroom is indoors, I will be using this on the window! every bit helps. ya know, we put plastic on our windows every year because our house leaks air like a sieve. Wonder what it would look like with bubble wrap.........

Barbara, I think its the same kind of bubble wrap. I learned from the local garden center, that the larger bubbles, the better the isolating effect.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Tonny, I think you are right and I read that the bubbles go out with the smooth side in.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Shirley, the 20mm bubbles are smooth on both sides.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Cool. The stuff I've seen at Charley's Greenhouse is only smooth on one side. That would make it a lot easier to install. I think what they have takes some kind of adhesive to stick it to the sides of the greenhouse from the inside.

Here is a link to the stuff I'm thinking about.
