Hip-replacement surgery tips?

Hi all,
I'm wondering if any of you have had any experience with hip-replacement surgery,
and can offer any tips for my mother?
She's met with a surgeon who says that she basically has no cartiliage left in her hip joints, and she has bone rubbing against bone. He's suggesting surgery, and she's ready.
I'm hoping that someone can share their experiences
and give me tips as to how to help her
and what to expect after the surgery.
She'll be recouperating here (with us) after her surgery.
