Not safe out there

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Our winds are just awful today. I went out to take a couple of pictures and to pick up some brugs and just left them lying on the ground. It isn't safe to be outside. These pictures don't really tell the story.

Wow there she blows. Thought mybe you was near the hurcane HAHA.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

B... it was like that here the past 4 days. i was so worried the brug buds would fall off. so far, they are far stronger than what i anticipated them to be. we always have strong winds here in the desert, once in a blue moon they would gust betw. 30-50 mi./hr. for some reason today is nice and calm.

hope the strong wind did not damage any of ur plants.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

I sure hope you're inside - it looks like anything could blow by.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm staying inside and hoping that the trees don't come down. I had one brug fall on Culebra and broke off a nice sized branch with a Y, so I guess I'm back to rooting again. Time to go dehydrate some grape tomatoes. Have to take my mind off the possible damage going on out there. Then to make matters worse, we are to get down to 37 on Sunday night. Just a one night thing, but I'll have to be sure things are covered if there is anything left.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

tarogers5, maybe this is part of the hurricane remnants. It sure is a stiff wind and it doesn't let up.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

We have seen it tonight on TV. Hope, that you are safe and no damages done to your home.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

It is about the same here Shirley. Big winds are busting through! I had two huge limbs break off some locust trees. There went the tomatoes, peppers and basil. It has been pouring down for a couple of hours. I hope the trees don't take out the swimming pool before I can drain it. Argh.

(Zone 6a)

I feel for you Shirley!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

This is bad, but nothing like what all of those folks down south went through with the hurricanes. It will die down some time and then I'll have to go to work. Lots to clean up.

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Shirley same up here. We have a thunderstorm warning for my area and a tornado watch. Suppose to be like this all evening.
I am not as windy as your picture looks at this minute. Came home from work and set alot of the pots back up. Wind direction changes so they are doing okay so far.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

just came back in from setting up quite a few turned over pots myself. Thank heavens that was all. Shirley, hope there's not too much damage.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Shirley, sure hope your plants don't get damaged. That's too bad about your Culebra. We are supposed to get the winds tonight and tomorrow.Stay inside and safe until the winds die down.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Shirley, I am so sorry. That looks just awful. I know how disappointing it is to see your brugs. like that. I have lost a couple this year, to my own fault, but woke up to find them laying on their sides broken off at the trunk.
It is so disheartning.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

The winds have died down quite a bit now and it looks like Culebra was the only big fatality and it was only one branch. Whiskers looks like she has been in a street fight, but all of her pods held on. White Pearl X Big rode out the storm on her side as did Ollie. My cassia plants will never straighten back up, but it is fall and they are all soon to be history. Tomorrow I'll be picking up branches and sticks. One nice thing about wind....it does clean out the trees and removes leaves from the yard a lot easier than the rake does.

Hamilton, Canada

Bruggie see if you can stake the cassia plants. I used your stake and taping method on rooting that 2 foot tall thin long cuttings. It worked great and I want to thank you for that information. The wind and rain keeps taking off the tiny buds of my Liz' sang x sang....they just won't hold on!
Its disappointing everytime it happens.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Joyce, we are so close to frost and the garden looks horrible anyway, that I'll probably just go dump it out of the pot and call it done for this year. I'm getting just about as tired as all the plants.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Oh my - you did have some wind, ours isn't nearly that bad - at least here in our little corner of the world. We have a very wooded lot tho, those big acorns & hickory nuts don't feel good on the head!! It's like being in a hail storm sometimes!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I found out that is is even worse when you step on those acorn tops on the deck and you are barefooted. I've yelled more than once when I stepped on them.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I don't go barefoot much anymore - too many things to hurt ya!!

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Okay Shirley, I must say your winds from earlier have finally made it here in full force. My DH is on his way back from Cleveland and said the wind is blowing is trailer all over the road. Slow going for him tonight. I wish it would hurry up and go away!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

wow whqat an action photo!!
too cool
an ad for Bayer systemic? sell the photo to them

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Yes, and it stands up to the wind too.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Wow Brugie it looks like your getting alot worse than we did here on the Mississippi Coast.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Hi Donna,

It is all over now but the shouting. I have a very messy yard. Thank goodness it is late fall and soon it will be gone with a frost anyway. I'm sure not going to knock myself out cleaning up all the leaves now. They will all be falling from the trees soon and then I'll mow and chop. Right now, in Iowa, we are trying to get all of our tender plants taken inside. Tomorrow night it is to get to 34 degrees. I've worked too hard today. Hope I can finish up tomorrow.

Shirley

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I saw our long term forcast and its going to stay above freezing ...the lowest its suppose to get is 38 on Thursday nite, the sliding glass door is going in on Monday ,once thats in the plants can go in the GH.....'bout time ,huh?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is good news Karyn. Hope the cold holds off a long time for you. Our weather will again warm up after we get through Sunday night. In with the brugs, and out with them again. They should be getting frequent traveler miles.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

We had terrible wind yesterday. It blew the brugs over, even the ones in the 30 gallon pots with rocks in the bottom. I left them till this morning, and Tracey and I set them back up. Lost a few branches, no major tragedys.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Bet Tracey and her DH are having a great time. Hope she gets to meet Frannie. That had to be some terrible winds. We are supposed to get 40 mph winds today, so I'm moving the truck out and putting the brugs into the garage. Will save them from our frost tonight and 32 degree temps too. So, I better get moving.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

We had a wonderful time! Left DH here, working :(, but Ashley had a wonderful time, she wants to move there. She was full of stories for her Daddy. She fell in love with Wally and Elliot. Tried to bring home a mouse! I was awed, big time. I am glad you didn't have to much damage, DH did water for me, I was impressed, he is getting better! No repeats of last year.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Tracey, he knew if he didnt take care of them, you would just come to Tennessee and stay!!!

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

Probably, I think he got lonely. I still can't believe I didn't take out my camera, I even had both sets of batteries charged! Found the camera when we stopped for gas, duh! I must have been in sensory overload. Next time a couple of days for sure! We'll go junking, it is so beautiful there Ash kept saying look Mom, there is a house for sell. Too funny!Kids and I am going to be just like Lauren.... her new Idol!
