meiyu, they all start like that. Only a few will show pink before they open the first night or even the next morning.

san antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

hehe...see, i didn't know that, tig!! ma vie, it's fragrance is very light, nothing like my yellow unknown, which makes everyone think i just baked a fresh lemon meringue pie. actually, that sounds pretty good, i think i will!!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Gorgeous!!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Very pretty meiyu.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

A beauty, now, all you have to do is find out which name to put on it.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

meiyu........very nice large flowers.. :-)

san antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

thanks hibiscus, but i thought that's why i posted it, so someone else would know what kind it is!!! hahaha!!

i'm still waiting for her to open all the way! argh!!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Well, Kyle wasn't much help, maybe Monika?

A white or pink suaveolens hybrid cannot be identified as long as it doesnt have distintice markings. Almost all of them look the same.

san antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

monika...what's distintice markings?????

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Isn't frosty pink a suavenolens hybrid, what sets it apart?Tons of the seedlings I have ,have bloomed and they are frosty looking. One looks like frosty but it has TONs on flowers ,but they are about 1/2 the size on the the frosty looking seedling that was next to it.......

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I have a seedling that looks just like Isabella, one that looks just like Shirley's Peach, etc.
now 1/2 size flowers is something to work with.

san antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

tig, brugie sent me a cutting of shirley's peach, and i thought it was one she (what do you call it when it's a plant? i don't know...animals, it would be 'bred') bred herself. i couldn't find any pics of the blooms of that one, along with some others...do you have a pic of it?

monika, i just realized maybe you meant to type distinct? i thought there was yet another flower/gardening term i had yet to learn the meaning of!! whew!! what kind of distinct markings would they have? and so, am i right then to assume this is a "pink suaveolens", if asked? is that just a generic term for all pink brugs or a certain group of pinks? i'm soooo sorry i'm very ignorant about everything, monika...please don't be upset with me if my questions seem really stupid!! i've just absolutely gone bananas over these wonderful trees, and am trying to learn more about them. thank you for sharing your expertise with me, you have no idea how i admire your gardens!!!!!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'll try to get out and get a picture for you today if it still has blooms. not sure how it got it's name, maybe Shirley can help us. Pink sauveolens is a generic term for a certain group of pinks, not all. it's a 'type'

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

OK TiG, do I have this right: Isabella is Insignis, and Frosty Pink is suaveolens? I stay confused.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

you're asking me????????????? don't they both have sauveolens type flowers?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I know I did the wrong thing by putting a name on Shirley's Peach. It came to me as a Versicolor Orange and I knew that was not the right name either. Could not find a correct ID for it, so rather than send it out to many people called "unnamed" and have everyone put a name on it, I gave it that name with some help from someone on this site. Don't ask me what it is.......I don't know my brug backgrounds at all. Just grow them and love them.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Didn't Kyle say in his post on the parentage of Dr Suess and CG that FP was Insignis?? Of course my CRC may be acting up again. LOL

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Shirley, I wasn't sure if there was more or what, and it is Shirley's Peach in my yard. And now hummer_nut has one too. I love it. I was just saying at first that a lot of my seedlings are turning out to look very similar to other things I already have.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

u can say that again tiG :). i find great similarities with Isabela, Insignis Pink and Frostie Pink. if there ever is one that is confuse that would be me...hehehehehe. they seem to look the same to me. will photo later.

somebody help clarify this mess Please LOL!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

MVR, I had all three pinks mentioned. FP looked very different with a much bigger and more rounded flower and white inside. Isabella and IP started to look alike after they got planted outside so I got rid of IP and now have only FP and Isabella, two very different looking flowers.

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

Very Pretty!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Snow. yes IP and Isabella looked exactly alike. Isabella is more fragrant, IP has faint scent. here's my FP

hahaha...wow...forget i asked, you guys!!! hahaha!!! i think from now on, i'll just stick to questions like, 'does it smell good', 'what color is it', and 'does it bloom alot'!!! i think trying to learn all that other stuff might take the fun out of enjoying them, for my little brain!! by the way, i was wrong when i said earlier that the fragrance was milder than my yellows...it's just as strong, i didn't know before this last flush of blooms that they don't have a strong fragrance during the hot afternoons, and i must have smelled my pink flowers during the wrong time of day last time. at dusk, throughout the whole night and into late morning, i have trouble leaving my tea table because of the wonderful fragrance!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

TiG, I've seen Frosty Pink always listed as "Insignis" but I think it was Kyle that said it was "suaveolens". Just when I thought I was starting to figure this all out, someone changes the rules, lol.

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

meiyu, most B. suaveolens, pink or whites, cannot be id by names. They are just B. suaveolens - hybrids. Hybridizer make selections, for instance two of my pink B. suaveolens can easy be identified by their leaves only. Leaves and flowers are different from usual B. suav. hybrids. The third has much larger flowers as the usual B. suaveolens.
The name doesnt make a plant but the beauty of its flower and willingness to bloom.

san antonio, TX(Zone 8a)

thank you, monika! while the names remain confusing to me, i do know that both my brugs are great bloomers and have a beautiful fragrance, so i'm happy!! all my brugs are getting ready for a fantastic flush of new blooms, too!!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Very beautiful Meiyu

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

"The name doesnt make a plant but the beauty of its flower and willingness to bloom."

ain't that the truth!!!

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Now, I think Dave should make THAT the quote of the day!!!!! Dave, are you reading???? :>)

Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

I think you should name it meiyu! How is your mom doing??
