How big could it get

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

if I had a longer growing season. This is the Ursaline x Cuba seedling I planted on 12/29. It's over 10 ft tall and still growing. I never thought Brugs would grow this big in this part of the country.

Holy Smokes!

What have you been feeding him?Steroids? LOL

Snow,
I agree with CC....must be some special drink you are giving that plant.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I haven't fertilized them in over a month and the soil isn't good where they are planted. It's got a lot of sand and gravel from the base of the GH floor. I can't figure it.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

WOW! Hope you know what you are doing?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

too bad you can't let it still grow.........it is amazing! May I ask where did you get that greenhouse? You are going to heat it? Is it collapsible for the summer?
thanks Snow

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

kell, I bought it from someone that sells them in Maine..It is stationary and doesn't collapse. My SIL is adding 15 more feet to it so it will attach to the house. DH doesn't want me trudging through the snow and ice this year.It has a greenhouse gas heater in it.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

another question about the GH - what happens when it gets snow on it? Or does the heater keep it melted?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It becomes an igloo Miss Lizzy!

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Liz, snow has much weight and must be removed from a Gh to avoid collapsing, which could happen and aleady did at other peoples places. The Gh of a friend even burned down in Nov. He had acryl glass and it melted and dropped and kept burning, whereever they fell on or down.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Snow, that is pretty. hope they get the GH finished soon. would be fun to see how big it would get next year, looks like you have a monster. it's sis is only i think 7 plus feet or so. you have a good DH.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Snow,is there any way that they can make the addition tall, like say 20 foot? LOL

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Snow - That's huge!! The plant has a nice shape too. Are those the first day flowers?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

2nd day fkowers Poppy. I'm not really impressed with the color of this one. When the heater is on in the winter it pretty much keeps the snow melted off but we have to shovel the sides of the GH as it piles up and presses in on the plastic. This is the first year we are keeping it open ALL winter. We usually open it up the end of Feb. cc, we can't make it any higher because the snow will build up behind it on the house roof. Already have to put a new bathroom ceiling in from last winter when the ice built up and leeked under the shingles.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Couldn't you bring the big ones in and lay them on their sides to go dormant?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Liz, I have lots of big ones already that will be put on their side and go dormant.I'm airlayering a few of the real big ones but they won't have roots before I can bring them in so they will have to go on their side till they root.GH is almost full with the addition not finished yet and I still have about 6 outside in big pots.Going to have to put a firecracker under my SIN to get him to finish it.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I still have 15 left to dig...some will get chopped up though....

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

cc, Better start digging. I had to stuff all of mine in the GH tonight as it is already in the 30's and they are predicting frost tonight.SIL is coming Sat. to finish the GH addition which will give me 15 more feet. DH went out and dug up another huge one tonight. It's v. Peach x Butterfly. It is almost opened and looks much different than the flower on the first PXB which was white.Hoping for color on this one.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I've been digging a few every day before I go to work,I ran out of pots today and almost out of pro mix
The only thing that will save me is that I live on the lake so it stays warmer on this side of the house, the north side is a different story....
Shooting for saturday to have them potted up....

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Snow, do you cover your house with 20mm isolation plastic?

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Monika, I don't think I've ever seen 20mm isolation plastic here. Mine is 6mm K50 Greenhouse plastic. Could you tell me more about the 20mm and where you get it?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Snow, I think you should dig this one and pot it up for the house. Not the greenhouse.......maybe use it for a coat rack? Gosh, that is a tall one for your short season.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Brugie, There's three this size. Got one layed down in the GH. It's a Peach x Butterfly. Flower opened today and it's a different shaped flower from the first but so far it is white. Hoping it turns color. My ceilings aren't near high enough for these big ones or I'd probably have them all inside. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Snow, I cut my Valley white off at about 4 ft. last year and this year it started up right at the top. It looks a little crooked, but for the most part it just looks tall. Another one I'm not keeping.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Bringing this back up for Monika. Sure would like to learn more about that 20mm plastic.Would sure save a lot of heat here in the winter.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Yes it would.....

Herbstein, Germany(Zone 5a)

Snow, this isolation plastic saves a lot of heat. Its available here everywhere. I scan a pic for you and post it, so you can see, what it looks like.
