Isabella is sooo dark

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

This is a picture I took today of an Isabella bloom. This is the darkest one I've seen so far this year. You can tell by the dead leaves in the yard that our winter isn't far away. I'm not likeing it at all.

Wow Brugie - that looks almost red! Very pretty. I wonder if it's the cool weather that made her so dark. I should have some blooms coming on mine in the next couple of days. I hope they're this dark!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I thought they were all looking a bit dark here too!

Mine is popping it's heads out of the calyx and I'm going away in 2 days. Sure hope it's still blooming when I get home so I can see it. Think I picked a dumb time to take a little holiday. All my brugs are covered in buds.

Wish I lived in your neck of the woods. I'd take care of them and take oodles of pictures while you vacationed.

I thought it was the cooler weather, but our last three days have been in the 90's and the upper 80's. Thought Strawberry Creme got lighter in the cooler weather. Maybe these plants just have a mind of their own. I can tell you that I'm enjoying Whisker's fragrance while I'm typing away and it is just one of the best!!

Sue, the color is exactly like that. Why or why couldn't they look like that when the plant was full of bloom....

Very pretty Shirley. My Whiskers is starting to bloom again too. Hope the weather holds up. I can't believe we haven't had a frost yet here. The weather was so warm today. Hope we don't pay for it this winter. LOL

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You will, and it will be where it hurts........Our weather has been just a little too good. Now, tonight it is getting cold, so I know tomorrow will be a whole lot different.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

ack, it turned hot here again. all the storms have something to do with it I think. I want 76 days and 65 nights please!!!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Come to Iowa. It is not going to be all that pleasant tonight and tomorrow. Now we are in a storm watch area. Guess when the weather changes drastically, that is bound to happen someplace.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

okay, I'll stop griping!! LOL! don't want storms or too much rain. or frost. or high winds. geez, I never stop do I??? hehehe

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Sounds like Kyle just got nailed by a big storm. Maybe he will come by and tell us about it.

Brugie, I wished you lived closer too. It would be wonderful to have you babysit my brugs and take pictures. The house sitters are very conscientious people and should take good care of them for me.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Mine has never gotten as dark as it did earlier in the summer,am I doing something wrong?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

What a great color!! maybe next year it will be full of dark blooms for you brugie!!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugie, maybe if it gets more shade, just a guess. i have one in morning sun, pretty much sun up to 1 or so, and it has had great color all year.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Arlene, you might be right because as the days get shorter and the sun is moving around, this one is getting a lot more shade. If that is the case, guess where she is going next year? :-) Sure worth trying.

This one was my favorite for suaveolens type genes until last year. Trully a great seed setter, heavy repeat bloomer...so many to die for traits. I can say she outperforms Frosty pink, Insignis pink, and so many other look alikes by a mile. Still, her pink is not full enough for me. Much to much white.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

brugie, yes i think for our weather down here to shade in the summer, but have out of the shade in spring in fall is ideal.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I just can't get rid of this one yet. I like the way she blooms so much and definitely, anything that you put on her sets seeds. Even the moths have played with her. The bloom is much lighter today though, so maybe it was just a fluke.

FSH, TX

Personally, I wish I crossed this one to Ecuador pink before I got rid of her as well. My problem has always been that there is not enough time in the day to make all the crosses and grow all the crosses one trully wants to see the end result of.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

If I happen to have more blooms before frost and can keep EP long enough to have those buds open, I'll give that one a try. I don't think I saved any pollen from Isabella, but would have to look.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I did get a pod with Isabella x EP. Only got about 40 seeds but hope there's one special one in there.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Great Snow, then I won't get excited about doing the cross. No need for both of us to do it. Hope you get a good one from it. I'm going to have enough to grow around here next year anyway. Have you had that first frost yet? All we are getting is rain, and lots of it. Had nearly two inches last night and today and now another 2 inches is predicted for the next 48 hours. At least I'm getting a little clean up done in the house.

Well, I said a LITTLE!! :-) It is hard to work when on DG.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Brugie, No frost yet. The weather may make history up here. It was in the 70's this week. I don't remember it ever being this warm this time of year. I'm praying it will last for just a few more days so I can see some blooms on Brugs that I haven't seen bloom yet.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

It was close to 80º here today ... and tomorrow nite it's supposed to be 39º! My Isabella had some buds pop open today and they're white!! I hope she darkens up. I think I may have a couple pods on her crossed with EP too. The pods are just tiny now. Still a chance they'll fall off.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'll be happy to stick with the temps we have if it just won't frost. Nothing in the future forecasts on the news yet, so I know I've got a few days to go. Sure hope we don't have a horrible winter this year. At least this year I can go to the basement and play in the brugs if I get bored.

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

Shirley, That is really beautiful. I wished I lived closer, I would love to come babysit your brugs.
