Datura

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

My poor little (less than a foot tall) Datura has had only 3 or 4 blooms since February. Since this picture, this flower is now a seed pod and the plant has 3 new buds. I guess I'm finally doing something right!

Very pretty. Now if we could just get those blooms on a brug and a little bigger in size,,,,,,,,,,,,,well, just dreaming I guess. My double purple datura didn't do well this year at all. The double white was amazing. Triple yellow was good for a while then went south. Just not a good year for me with datura.

A purple brug?! That would really be beautiful! I'm hoping if this little plant takes off then there's hope for all the brugs I have now. My garden should really be something next spring...Thanks Arlene!!

This is cool looking datura. The inner bloom is a lighter color... I don't think I've seen one like that before.

Very pretty!!!
By the way, is it true (always) that Brug flowers always hang down, and Datura flowers always face upwards? Am wondering about our local "weed", datura stamonium (sp?).

Hey Poppysue, I've been looking for a picture of the flower from the top so you could see down into it...well can't find one so I'll post after the next flowers bloom. It's pretty much white inside with a purple throat. It's pretty but I'd sure like to find that pinwheel or raspberry swirl I've seen posted.
Hi Shoe, Maybe someone will see your question since this will get bumped back up. Didn't someone recently post a pic of a brug with up facing flowers??

Stacey, that looks like a kind i grew for a couple of years. they are short lived perrenials, maybe 2-3 years if they get frosted back like they do here. daturas are like brugs, respond to fertilizer. hope your cuttings are doing well.

That sure looks like it, thanks Hibiscus!

You are welcome. I am leaving three seed pods on, they are taking forever to ripen!

I only have 1 seed pod so far, but still have plenty of time for more. They sure do take a long time!
